135 I Cruise Noise

 Absolutely love this car but have only one downside comment. I actually traded in my 335 for this car as, like the rest of you guys, decided that it is THE BMW to have in terms of performance and value for money and I don't need the size of the 335.

By the way, the 135 is way quicker and with far more planted handling that th 335, particularly with the sprintbooster!

Only downside is that it cruises quite noisily at 100kms per hour.

Much louder than any other BMW I have driven in the past. Seemsto be mainly exhaust noise rather than engine noise. I can only guess that BMW have designed in that characteristic so as to give a sportier exhaust noise during acceleration. Still think they could have come up with a better compromise though.

What do you guys think of the cruise noise at 100km per hour? Any of you come from a 335 as I did, and can make the comparison?

Think you'll get a different answer from the Aussies?

I too came from a 3 series coupe like you (05/330Ci).

I have had the golf tee mod done for some weeks now and can say that the exhaust note is definately louder at cruising..

Is your exhaust still standard?:iono:

The vert is noiser at all speeds..
I actually like the louder exhaust tone.

The wind noise is actually smaller than I expected from a car this small, but the exhaust noise can be heard pretty much whenever your feet is on the gas, even at the lower RPM. I thought that was cool.

I came from a subie Sti with 3" exhaust. The 135 is like a sensory deprevation chamber in comparison! I do note a bit of wind noise around the sun roof, but I'm not used to refined cars!

I personally think the exhaust note is a little muted to me. I wouldn't mind if it was a little louder IMO.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention this. When I test drove the manual 135 some weeks ago I didn't think it was that much noisier than my 2.5si Z4 or my current model 120i, in fact, I reckon my Z4 is slightly better in the 'aural' department and kinda wished the 135 was a little bit more sportier in this regard but I would be interested to hear from other Zed owners who have swapped over to the 135.

Cheers,

Phil
