DCT for 335?!
I think its a misprint, but the latest BMW 3 series coupe price list indicates that the 335 can now be optioned with the new dual clutch system. This is news to me....

Yeah, dealer was telling me about this today when I picked up my car. Sounds interesting...

Not a misprint - I was expecting the non-M DCT to appear in the 3, but not quite yet! Will it be an option in the 1 I wonder? Interesting to note that it replaces the steptronic trans in the 335i....

wow, so its not a misprint... Although my step is okay, would have loved to option the dual clutch if it were available....

More interestingly, high beam assist has now been made an available option on the 1 series!

Well now, this is really interesting for me...
I want a 135i with step, but won't be ordering anytime soon, since I'll have to wait for '09 delivery anyways, so fingers crossed the new 7sp DCT finds its way to the 135i also, if it does that'll make me a very happy man |

Wraith, I'm with you mate, gotta wait until 09 to place my order but suddenly, this may not seem like a bad idea if the DCT could be an option for the 135. Like you we're looking to get the Steppy but the DCT would certainly be interesting albeit for an extra $7000k or thereabouts (I think read somewheres that it was about this price).

I'd just gotten over the fact that a '09 135i will cost more because of the LCT increase... If it is going to cost that much, it may be worth sticking to the 6sp step, unless it becomes the standard auto trans on the 135i like it has on the 335i.... |

Did you guys actually look at the pricelist that aus buster posted? It's $3.5k. Yes it is $7k in an M3, but that is because it is a M-DCT gearbox, which means it is a lot smarter and has all the goodies like yaw sensors etc built in.

.02 second shifts... no human can do that... so manual would be slower...

That's much more reasonable and at that cost, I'll have one for sure...7 gears, 0.2 second shifts, efficiency and power transfer of a 'normal' manual with the convenience of an auto = can't go wrong and worth paying a little extra for IMHO  |

As stated above 0.2sec shifts (although some reviews claim the step feels just as quick and DSG type trans from other manufacturers are down to 0.1sec shifts) and no loss of power to the drivetrain due to no stall converter, which you have in a typical auto, which also means similar consumption to a regular manual and 7 gears to spread the torque and power band over, should result in even more impressive acceleration than what the 135i already has...:w00t: |

I guess its only a matter of time before the 135 gets it.
From BMW : have spoken to our product manager regarding your query and I can advise that this new gearbox can be ordered for September production on 335i Coupe.
