Angry Business Nav SUX

Okay guys, i was putting the business NAV through its paces today and it failed miserably. First of all I tried a simple route to my parents place and the damn thing was asking me to route via mars (so to speak :wink. I gave it another chance and asked it to route to Palm Beach and it displayed the route through Venus. To put icing on the blasted cake, I plugged in the destination to a mates house and it routed through Pluto. I don’t know if it’s a bug in the version 14 Business nav map CD, but my wife and I have absolutely no faith at all in its routing capabilities(our trusty Tom Tom puts it to shame). I’m going to lodge a complaint with BMW and see if it’s a software issue. If so, I hope a fix is available. $2700 is too much to be wasting on this sub-standard navigation unit...

P.S :

I have tried fastest & shortest routes and all are as bad as each other...

Hi Raj.
It could be just a setting issue.
have you gone into the settings menu in detail and personalised it yet.
Catch up up with me later today and we will have a look at it.
I have nothing but good things to say about my baby..

I have to admit that my old Garmin StreetPilot beats my pro nav hands down for functionality and ease of use. Still I went for integrated nav because I didn't want a portable unit to spoil the look of the dash. Plus you get the added functions of i-drive.

As for routing, my Garmin is brilliant. Pro nav - jury's still out as there aren't too many routes here to test.

I read the title and thought, damn I hope there isn't a key feature missing that means I should try and change my order to the Pro Nav. I kind of expected BMW's navigation to be a couple of rungs below by my iPaq phone with Tom Tom, but like d3syd said, getting iDrive was the main attraction. That said I kind of hoped the nav system would be adequate enough that I would need to run two sat nav systems in the car for journeys where I truly need help getting to my destination....

It’s definitely a business nav routing logic glitch. Joe (zuzu) came past my place and we inputted the same destination (palm beach) with the exact same settings and the pro nav (Joe’s system) routed the correct way whilst my business nav is routing via Jupiter. I think it’s going to be a long journey in reporting this issue and waiting for a fix. Therefore, I suggest that anyone with a business nav to not trust the routing engine till BMW announces a fix.

Raj and I did a little experiment this afternoon where we set our IDrive settings identical to each other.

I have Pro Nav.
Raj has Business Nav.

We set the same destination on both Nav's while the cars were side by side and guess what?

Raj's Business Nav, for some reason ,navigates him to the destination but, takes him on a total different route than my Pro Nav.
We end up at the same destination, just that Raj's Business Nav doesnt take the shortest direct route...What the??:iono::iono:

Must be some sought of softwhare issue more so that the Nav itself..

Could be a faulty disc..:iono::iono:

Any one else with business Nav have this problem?

Don't think its the disk as I believe that only contains the maps, which is common with all other portable units.

Yes, that would drive me insane as well. One thing that is still bothering me which I haven't had an answer on this forum is this:

Do the inner headlights light up when you put your high beam on? If they don't then what are the globes that can be seen in them do?? So far no one has answered this question......

Perhaps it takes the convertable by the scenic route and the coupe by the practical route.

I told you what they do on a car with adaptive headlights. They light up on the side that you are turning. You were right though, the flash uses the xenon...but hang on, I tested the car when the xenon is already on. Maybe in daylight when you flash the inner headlight lights up? Have you tried this?

Damn, I hope the weird routing issue isn't a system design in the Business Nav. I mean for $2700 you'd still expect to get a Nav system that functions.....

I hope it's a simple fix and solved come Sept/Oct....
Sorry aus_buster that you become the test subject.

On the other topic of the non-used headlight thing, the fact that a bulb is fitted is very weird. Anyone able to check if the bulb is real by getting it out? I promise to check when my 135i arrives

Perhaps the extra light is part of the adaptive headlights?

So the consensus so far is that the light up is you have adaptive headlights. If you don't have AH, then they appear to do nothing.

Yes I tried flashing with the xenons off and they don't come on either. Only the xenons flash.

Only possible clue is that the instruction manual says the inner ones have a H8 35W globe for "side lights, parking lights and daytime running lights". Which could mean that the globe might somehow be used to light up the halo lights:iono:

If the inner light was used to for high beam it should be a H7 55W globe (as per non xenon equipped cars).
