You guys better test the iphone before getting one. I used one for 2 weeks and gave it away. Why? I couldn't sms quickly enough on the touchscreen! Btw, I have not even used the USB thingy on the car. Have the cable and everything but havent tried it. More interested in making the car faster haha.

I'd agree with Way, the sms function isn't as intuitive or quick as a keypad.
That said, I still really like the functionality of the iphone, I just write shorter SMS's. The iphone works perfectly with the 135/idrive. I've tested out my 2g model, had full control of the audio. I won't be using the iphone for in car audio though.

The iPhone syncs beautifully and easily via Bluetooth anytime you get in the car. Your contacts appear on iDrive (if you've got it), and those contacts are available for voice dialing with a touch of a button on the steering wheel.
I can't tell you how well the iPhone works playing tunes when you snap it into the armrest and plug/unplug it. That seemed like too much of a hassle to me, so I just keep an old iPod in the console with a few thousand songs on it. With the iPhone, I follow the old, classic advice: Keep it in your pants.

Does the USB port charge the iPod/iPhone connected to it?

Very good advice . I'll be investigating a 3G iPhone too, come September, so will be interested in others' experiences.

Full integration with iphone for phone function & iPod function with absolutely no issues in my 135i and both of my X5's. Works great with my iPod Touch as well. However, I have stopped using the iphone & iPod Touch in either of my BMWs because of the hassle of installing then taking them out. I purchased tumbdrives and just leave them in the cars...cheaper and less of a hassle.
Now, if I could just get the mobile internet in idrive:iono: Call

iPhone integration is very good.
It does charge when plugged in, but as stated above, it's a hassle to do every time. I plug in only when running low on charge. Have left it behind the couple of times I've done it though (atleast its well hidden). iPod function when plugged in works perfectly, but again, best using an old/smaller ipod that you don't have to remove each trip. The iPhone is one of the best pieces of kit I have ever owned. Love it. I understand the limitations of the SMSing / typing etc, but that's such a minor part of my life, I don't care. I'm not one of these 100 texts a day types. I don't think anyone who is a gadget nerd, or Apple geek will be disappointed. I'm not.

Does BMW do a cradle for the iPhone? I received a cradle and phone (Nokia 6233) when I bought my X5 last year and the cradle fits the 135. I must say where I live the reception can get poor and clicking the phone into the cradle boosts the reception by at least 2 bars (of 5) as well as the benefit of keeping the phone charged.
