384 hp / 421 tq: DINAN 135i Tuning
forgive me if this is a repost, but i just got off the phone w/ Dinan and they confirmed they will have the software package for the 135 as soon as the vehicle is available to Dinan in the spring. the output will be identical to the 335i treatment, increasing the turbo boost from 8.8 to 13.2 psi. see attached performance charts, one is without the dinan dynopack exhaust system, the other with.
as you can see even stock the 135 produces well over 300 hp at higher rpms. i'm definitely getting the dinan tune and larger oil cooler. then better rims/tires, and perhaps the dinan suspension package. Dinan confirmed they will not be selling a LSD (bummer), so i'll have to look elsewhere for that. not sure if i'll be able to find a LSD that retains the BMW warrantly, we'll see. but even if i can't, a 135 with this Dinan softare tuning should be hell on wheels! i'm hoping for 0-60 in low 4s, quarter mi in maybe 11s? i'm picking up my 135 in germany in april or may. montego blue w/ terracotta leather. yee-haw ! |

i for 1 will want to see what BMW wil be bringing to the table, but more inlikley i will get a procede, Shiv (vishnu dude) has just made 390hp+390tq with procede, intake, catless DP, exhaust using only shitty 91 octane gas, with 93 it will hit 400HP at the wheels and that's without touching turbos or the intercooler.
here the link to the dyno: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106330 enjoy :w00t: |

Forgive my naivitee... Are they testing a 335xi, and FWHP is front wheel horsepower? If so, it's very interesting how the hp and torque ratios vary over the powerband.
If FWHP is not front wheel horsepower, what does it stand for? (and thanks in advance) |

What about this quote...
"The engine block on the 335i may not be torsionally rigid enough to handle the torque load, causing premature crankshaft failures. Studies are currently in effect to find any weak point in the block and may include block modifications to make it more rigid for the future higher power applications." And, as to the warranty... "Dinan is the only BMW tuner that matches the 4 year/ 50k mile new car warranty, including consequential damages. However, either the stock oil cooler or the Dinan High Capacity Oil Cooler are required in order to maintain the matching new car warranty coverage. If the car is currently equipped with the factory oil cooler, Dinan strongly recommends upgrading to the larger unit for reduced and more consistent water and oil temperatures, particularly if the car is driven in a spirited fashion on a regular basis." Dinan for me as well.

sorry for asking a possibly silly question, but all of that information seems to apply to a 335i. Is this the same engine that is going in to the 135i?
...research answered my question, it looks to be the same engine. For an additional $2k, that sounds like a good deal. Hopefully they will add a package that includes the intercoolers and bigger turbos sometime soon. From the other pictures on this forum, those turbos are itty bitty. |

Couple of observations:
1. bolt-on exhaust system upgrades are really pretty worthless for HP gains...adding the cat-back and "X" pipe, whatever that is, only bumped peak RWHP by 8 on top of the re-flash. Maybe the down-pipe/primary cat assemblies are more of a restriction? 2. Peak RWHP up by 46. (296 stock vs. 342 Dinan re-flashed) Lots of increase all across the board however. Peak power is for bragging rights. Power increases throughout the entire rev range, or "area under the curve" is what makes a car fast. 3. They forgot to include RWTQ data, which is disappointing because nobody tuning their car in the real world uses flywheel fugures. Everything is measured SAE corrected at the wheels for the hardest and most honest #'s possible. 4. Likely the best bang for the buck power mod for the N54 so far, but it's extremely pricey. Hondata does very similar ECU reflashes for late model Honda/Acuras and they charge ~$600, which is still a huge markup. (And we're talking very similar R&D and "work" that goes into making one of these reflashes...nothing to do with the brand of vehicle) |
