Opening doors twice

Hi, I am enjoying my new-to-me 2009 128i. I have a question about opening the doors though. It seems like I have to “open” the door twice to get out. One pull of the interior handle unlocks the door, then I have to pull it again to open the door. Is it possible to disable that and just have one pull open the door and unlock it?? I have a bunch of older cars, so not sure if this is normal for newer cars. Its pretty annoying for me tho….

And not crazy about the exterior Camry-esque door handle pulls. That rant for another thread some day

Anyway, thank you

I think you can set car to unlock your door when car shuts off - in menu somewhere, I forget . . .

Agreed, pretty sure it's in the options, you have to dig for it but it's there.

FYI, it won't be for single or double pull to unlock, that's kind of just how things are mechanically constructed. The menu option will be for locking them (or not) once you start driving to begin with. Turn that off and you'll only have to pull the handle once (no more unlocking first).

Thanks a lot guys! I’ll dig thru the menus! Shame I have to still do the double-pull if i want it locked while driving tho.

Just so you don't feel to bad - Ford/Mercury, Toyota/Lexus, and probably a few others I don't know about have the same two pull fun.

There's also a way to have the doors unlock when you turn off the ignition, that way its' a single pull to open the door. I think that might be full coding though. I did that one when I first got the car.

There is a coding option in the CAS module that will unlock the doors whenever the ignition turns off. So the doors would still be locked while driving and then a single pull to open the door.

^yeah, confirmed last night, that's what I did. I used bimmer code for convenience, but I think I'm headed down the full coding path soon as I try to troubleshoot some headlight issues.

I always find it amusing that back in the day, all the European automakers had stern warnings in their owner's manuals about not locking the doors while driving, lest rescuers have trouble getting into the car after a crash. Today, in theory the SRS system will unlock the doors when it sets the bags off - but do you really want to potentially bet your life on that happening?

I don't get the point of generally driving around with the doors locked. If for some bizarre reason I am driving in a sketchy 'hood, I will lock them, then unlock them again once I am back in civilization.

YES! Thanks again everyone. I got the BimmerCode app and coded in to have the door unlock when engine shut off. So nice now!

Now you can modify other interesting configurations as well

I turned off the driver's seatbelt warning, because it's irritating. There are times where I don't wear the belt (of course I wear it while driving)

Set your lighting preferences

I set the Euro Hazard light feature, which is fun

all kinds of crazy settings there . . .

does your euro hazard feature work when the car is turned off?

i ask because i have that feature enabled and it works when the car is running (maybe also in accessory mode?) but when I turn the car off the hazards revert back to standard.

no, the euro hazard blink pattern does Not work with car OFF - my car does the same as yours. I had not noticed that!
Maybe some safety regulation? No idea
