Wink

Looks like they're just learning to drive. I wish I had that job.

I am really surprised at the lack of car control. It's understandable to slip with the first or second try but after that you really should know how quick and how lock has to be applied to maintain the drift, plus you hear next to no throttle modulation what so ever.

P.S.

You see how difficult it is to overcome the 911's natural understeer. Many people are surprised by this mainly because of the pass history 911s have had but they are quite safe to drive and drive quickly.

+1.
An excellent driftcar(E9x M3) and those morons...after some practise this is so easy to do and so entertaining. A 997 still has quite some understeer, a E9x M3 is much easier to maintain sideways.

And some people here then go and put a lot of stock in C&D tests at VIR or wherever...The '09 911C2S is about 10-15 seconds faster (depending on if using PCCB or not) at the Nurburgring than the M3. This is with the same driver, Horst von Saurma, at the wheel of both. That is a more valid test in terms of driving ability/consistency as well as a better track in terms of not favoring a certain type of car (i.e. VIR is better suited for HP cars, etc.). Comparing a base 911 vs. an M3 is nonsensical - they do it based on price....Completely different cars though. C&D is a joke! Also, why drift around the track like kids, when you lose time?

They picked some really bizarre lines when entering that corner if their intent was to show off by drifting out, on several of them they pretty much guaranteed they would spin even before they started their drifts. Not sure what the point of that video was other than to make C&D drivers look bad.

In one of the shots you can see a camera on tripod. Looks like they are just trying to get some nice powersliding shots for the magazine. In the magazine article they have plenty of such shots.

I am also glad they compared the 997.2 C2 to the M3. The as-tested C2 is only $7000 or so over the M, and the price gap may shrink further with some negotiations. I would be tempted to cross-shop if I were in the market now. Some may think these cars are entirely incomparable but then you can never satisfy everyone.

Less than $10/year for a car rag... what more do you guys expect??? Top Gear magazine is $11 per issue retail, and it costs MORE if you subscribe.

Maybe they needed to watch this "how to drift" vid first?

Driving on a closed course....

They look just like me my first time out on a road course. Unless you have actually tried it you don't know what it is like. Pushing a high performance car close to the limit on a track is nothing like driving on the street-and yes you will spin the car a few times-that is how you learn the car's specifics and feedback at the limit.
