DCT shifting points
Now that I'm done with my breakin period , I'm working on learning the maximum shifting points on DCT. Coming from a manual E46, shifting between gears was pretty much at redline right before I hit the rev limiter but I'm having difficulty on my E92 with DCT. The difficult shift is going from 1st to second (S5 and M mode on), I floor it, watch my rev build up to 8K and I try to hit the peddle at 8K, but by the time I hit it, it has already hit the rev limiter. Now I tried this a few times and found that if I actually hit it at 7.5-7.6K then it changes at 8K. Is this the right behavior since now that we don't have a clutch I have to actually change a little faster vs in a manual I could control the shifting immediately with a clutch?
BTW, I tried the shifting lights but I'm just not used to them, I rather watch the RPM. By the way I love DCT, no matter what it was the best decision I have ever made so this is NOT a post complaining in any way. I would never drive a car with a clutch again. You can be incredibly fast with this thing...I'm just trying to learn it. 09 M3 Last edited by ///Armin; 12-31-2008 at 10:50 AM.. |

I comes with experience, don't concern yourself too much at the moment you and the gearbox/paddles will click soon. I can now match it perfectly regardless of whether I am using S1 or S5.
Give it time. |

it's not a delay. the motor revs so fast by the time you decide to change gears that needle has already moved a lot. you will just need to get used to when to shit.
