Do you regret buying JET BLACK???
I love the color, but have never owned one. Do you guys that have or have owned one ever regret it? If you do regret it, what color do you wish you had?
Thanks, Chris |

Nope. Absolutely love it. It's a bitch to keep clean and admittedly I don't always do such a hot job, but no other color looks as menacing when it is clean.

black is a beautiful color, especially in the M3...but to me, it's not worth the added efforts required to KEEP it that way. I owned a cosmos black e36 M3 many years ago....and while I loved it...the amount of time i spent obsessing over it was ridiculous. Swirls, small marks, little scratches...unreal. I swore at that point, I would never own another black car after that one. I've since gone to the opposite extreme with Alpine White. I've owned an e46 M3, a 996TT and now the e92 M3....all in white...and I wouldnt have it any other way. I contemplated Interlagos and I would have done it, but a deal on Alpine came along that I couldn't pass up.
It's a matter of preference and how anal you plan to be with the car. If the car is not garaged nightly, don't even think about it...that's sure to be hell. If you simply don't care about swirls and small blemishes in the paint, then maybe it'll be alright for you.

My E46 325Ci is Jet Black. Love it. Looks dirty quickly though. That's why I didn't get my M3 in black.
Personal choice really. Here are my 2 BMWs for now. 325Ci will have to go after the winter.

My very first car was black.
Though it looks awesome when clean, that's the problem, it's too hard to keep looking clean. I would never buy another black car. Looks dirty too quickly, you see scratches WAY too easily, you can see orange peel too easily, you can see swirl marks, and if somebody even puts their hand or fingers on your car you can see greasy hand marks. Save yourself a lot of time and trouble keeping the car looking clean and nice, avoid black. |

I love JB, my second M3 in that color. No regrets after 6 years of JB and quite the opposite - just looks so amazing. You have to look after it and it takes a lot of effort (swirled black looks about as bad as it gets) but don't be scared away. I have only had one non-black car in my life and that was an Alfa so I felt like it had to be red..

I agree with the other members on this one. Looks great clean, but bad when it's not!
I owned a Jeep that was black and the very first time I washed it, I already started to see small swirl marks. I hated that about the black, the smirl marks. And you can't avoid them, they'll come no matter what you do. Silver is probably your best colour for not seeing dirt and imperfections. Space grey is nice too. It all depends on what you want. I'm sure with a new M3 in your hands you'll be happy either way.

I've owned 2 jet balck cars. A 200 xtera and a '04 Saab 93 Aero. They both looked awesome all clean and shined up. But the real problem was that within a year of their lives. Both paint jobs were trashed by weather, blowing sand (Nevada, NM) swirl marks, hard water stains, etc. Although I busted my ass waxing and cleaning almost every weekend, it eventually made no difference. I now have a space gray M3 with venture shield almost 100% of the car and even if I didn't get the paintshield. On the rear quarter panels and trunk lid where I still have to get the paintshield done, the paint is already 7 months old and under direct sunlight I can't see any swirl marks or imperfections in the paint. Looks brand new!
Black looks mean, tough, slick. The M3 especially I think looks bad ass in black but what a pain in the ass to keep in good shape. I'd go with metalic gray's or white and save yourself the trouble. But man, black sure looks good. |

Owned a black A4 and now a Jet Black X5. You'll never regret it. Especially after a wash, looks mean.

Every car I've ever owned (all two) are/have been black. Nothing looks meaner than a newly washed black car, and I submit that the pain involved with keeping it clean are overshadowed by the joy experienced from that 5-7 day window after washing. Black also looks fantastic at night.
The only reason I didn't order my M3 in black is because I love the contrast between the dark CF roof and the lighter body of the car.

It's probably best explained as a labor of love if you want it to look as good as it can. It is an amazing looking color when cared for properly but the moment it gets dirty it looks pretty bad. I wanted JB because it looks wet and an inch deep with reflections when clean. If you go with JB, make sure to get set up with all new micro fiber towles, wash mits, etc. Use two wash buckets, one with clear water and one for a good lubricating soap (so you can continually rinse dirt from the wash mit in the clean water bucket), wash from the top down and NEVER let anyone else wash it. That said, it's not a big issue if you go into JB knowing it requires a little more TLC. Good luck...

I went with Jerez Black and it looks awesome when clean, not great when dirty. My car is clean every day!! Each time I leave the garage in the morning its clean! It requires a ton of maintenance but looks awesome!

Black looks stunning when clean, but it will get dirty the second your done with your wash. The next day i could start seeing the dust build up...its a bitch to maintain but looks best out of all other colors when clean.

i have jet black and don't mind the washing... if you can live in Cali or otherwise dry climate and keep dusting it every day, you really don't have to wash it at all very much. You just need to get into the routine of it all.
