brake light out

a few months ago I got an intermittant right brake light out . I took out the bulb and fit it back in more snug. no problem. now "left brake light malfunction. seems to be the same thing. anyone else get this? the bulb type does not seem to fit very securely.

I've gotten the right brake lamp warning a few times, went away on its own... haven't seen it for a while (knock on wood).

do you have aftermarket exhaust? i've had to replace/adjust both sensors because my exhaust rattled something. link to exhaust in sig (no cats, makes a lot of things vibrate)

Yeah, have had the same problem, also had it in my old e53 X5 as well!

The dealer replaced one light and the light stayed on for 10 minutes. Turned off by itself

no - stock exhaust- seems to be worse when its cold. they are cheap pop in type of bulbs. like the design in my cheap yard lights.

I had the same malfunction message. Usually during a cold start. 4-5 times in one week. Would go away, but I told the dealer about it and they replaced the assembly under warranty. Has not happened since

Had the same problem. Took it to dealer and they replaced the bulb. Drove 5 min. and warning light came on again. Dealer said the 07' 3 series had a similar problem with the brake light "assembly" but he was suprised to see it on my 08 m3. He replaced the entire part (whatever that is) and no problem since. Incidentally, they also had to replace my entire rear window because a few weeks after purchase I noticed that the 3rd brake light was uneven. Checked it out and a couple clips were broken on one side. BMWs policy is to replace the entire window.

I have had one too, but it went away on it's own. It was the right side, I think. I did hear that it's a common thing. annoying, but what can you do.

That's because your "Disposable" GP Thunders are out.. cough up another $20 or so bucks and get used to it.

My right tail light assembly was replaced in October because of the warning indicator. Now this week it says the left one is malfunctioning, but it is only intermittent. HMMM. This sounds like a fairly common problem.

I haven't had any problems with my brake lights. Last night when I was reversing into my garage I noticed that the right cornering light only lit up when the steering wheel was turned to the right and the car was moving forward, but the left cornering light would come on even when reversing if the wheel was turned to the left. Weird.

my "left brake light" warning came on too. apparently it's the light housing/assembly that causes intermittent signals. got it replaced under warranty.

There is a service bulletin on the wiring harness that deals with the tail lights.

I currently have the bulb out warning, but my tail lights are perfectly fine.

I called my dealer and they made me aware of the wire replacement Tech bulletin and Im going in today to have the service performed. They say it takes 15 minutes.

+1, can you post the service bulletin number. I'm having the occasional right brake lamp malfunction as well. Usually comes on with cold starts and lasts for less than 10 minutes.

I had the same problem and i-drive messages. The dealer replaced all the bulbs and so far no issues.

As for the SI B on the problem, I think its pretty old. When the dealer checked my car (March 2008 production M3), it wasn't included in the cars the SI B was applicable to.

I've had this issue as well. It comes and goes. Be advised that while the warning is present, you do not have function of the tail light.
