e60 AUX issue, can't select AUX as source

Hey all.
I have a '10 535i with a M-ASK unit that I installed one of those 8.8 inch upgraded infotainment screens into with car-play/android auto. The unit outputs sound through AUX.

When I go into my sources, AUX is there (it just says 'AUX' though, not 'AUX audio' like I've seen in some videos), it is not grayed out, but when I try to select it, it does not select, the source just remains on whatever the previous source was (FM radio).

I was initially trying with the AUX jack in the armrest/center console. I've tried plugging in an iPad just to rule out if it was the new infotainment screen, but the iPad didn't work either.

I tried another aux cable, inserting the pins into the infotainment harness, that did not work either.

I figured maybe the car wasn't coded right, so I read the trace file and AUX was set to 'activ', so I really don't know what the deal is at this point.
Hoping one of you can nudge me in the right direction, or can drop the name of a member who know the audio/nav systems well.

Thanks in advance!
Cheers!
