Thoughts on an additional direct wire connections to main battery
I'm adding a 1000 Watt power inverter to my X5 40e. The device will sit in the smaller storage area above the batteries and below the trunk deck. BMWs battery terminals are a unique style and I'm looking for recommendations on how best to tap into the posts. I suspect this is a basic question, but couldn't find any photos or solutions through search.
I plan to fuse the positive lead using this Last edited by comshark; 05-27-2021 at 12:31 PM.. Reason: Image not displaying |

The issue with doing this is the IBS measures the charge in and out of the battery. If you tap the battery directly, the IBS cannot account for this, and you could get errors relating to a high discharge rate.
Edit -> What is said holds true for regular F15s, I'm not sure for the 40e

Is there a better source to tap into than the battery itself given your statement on the IBS?

I don't have any experience doing so with the F15, but on other Bimmers I like to use the big fused feeds when I tap power for amplifiers or other large draw devices. Diagram of location for the F15 below.
