Information for battery disconnection

I have an F83 and I would like to know if it is possible to disconnect the battery without having errors. I read that if you leave the car without the battery for a while, the control units reset, is that true?
How long can it be left detached, if it can be done?

The only inconvenience with disconnecting the battery is having to tell the car to reset the time and if you use your trip odometer it get reset. Other than that, worry not

But when I reconnect the battery I have to do the recoding because the car might "think" that I changed the battery?

Sorry for the bad translation.

You'll be ok, you only need to register/code the battery if you are installing a brand new unit.
It tells your ECU that it's new so it can adjust the charging power based on the age of the cells.

My advice for battery disconnect would be to open the boot first and let the car go to sleep then disconnect. This I follow as best practice as some control units are still awake and can get damaged.

I think the easy way to tell is by putting on the rear window lock and open the boot when the Illuminated button goes out it is safe to disconnect the battery.

I think it's approx 15 minutes.

I know loads of people just disconnect and it's fine but I've known of some pretty expensive control units getting damaged in past BMW's so I always am cautious
