Clock resetting 🥴

Over the past few weeks I’ve had to reset the clock and the odometer has been zeroed quite a few times! I’ve heard that this could be down to the battery not charging correctly, before I shell out for a new battery is there anything else that can cause this ? any help would be much appreciated, Steve

Besides battery, the other two most common "electrical issues" would be a fraying cable that delivers power at the jump post (under the front hood, red knob thing), or a corroding ground strap, on LFH drive cars it's on the driver side, near the steering rack.

I had the same issue back in February. I put the battery on a charger for a few hours and it hasn't been an issue since then.

My 2008 135i is still on its original battery. I put it on a trickle charger if I know I will not be driving it for a week or so.

Most likely battery but I have also had this happen if I leave my Carly or OBD dongle plugged into the port overnight. Aftermarket things can keep the car from going to sleep.

We just changed our 2012 E88 battery at 50k miles. In 2020 we had 144 days above 100 degrees F. (38C) so batteries don't last as long here.

9/10 it's the battery,
if you can get a scanner on it and check the charging histogram and last 5 days
bet you'll see 40-50%

if your batt is older than 5 years bite the bullet and change it

also good call on replacing the earth strap as well
