Opinions on this base 2018 m4

Really want my first m4, been looking for this exact one but competition package. As you can see its not cp, so im asking all what do you think about this one and will skipping on a possible cp model be worth it??

Skip it- they drilled the front bumper. Major hit in value imo
Could be used as basis for negotiation.

Also whenever an M car, as new as this one, isn't a CPO, it's a major red flag for me. BMW has a strict criteria which must be met in order to CPO the car (no mods, aftermarket parts/tunes etc).

You'll need to find out what the exact story is, two owners on the carfax and the car only has 12k miles. The history is wack, and doesn't make any sense.

Ima call to ask where is the service history cause I don't see the 1200 mile on carfax. And also ask why its not cpo.

It's the front license plate holder.

nice car. price is right.
as others have said a car that new with such low mileage and no CPO is bad news.
Carfax is not reliable for service history (or anything else really) but failure to perform the 1200 mile service is grounds for BMWNA to decline CPO.
the accurate service/repair history is available via key-read if the dealer is willing to show it to you. and i do mean SHOW it to you.
repair of previous crash damage is a crap shoot unless the repair was covered by retail insurance AT LEAST four months prior to the report you're looking at.
bottom line: i'd pass on a car like this that BMW is unwilling to CPO. be patient, get the right car.

Edit: there are two very reliable Indy shops not far from Freehold for PPI, both well known to the CCA.

I've got a 2018 M3, original owner, CP with 12k miles that I have been thinking about selling. I just don't drive it much anymore (job was moved to remote position). It's not an M4 though...

That's one CLEAN car & it's a ZCP (well worth the extra money)

Newer M cars, still under warranty, are rarely CPOd. It is the ones with little warranty that are. Why add $4k for an extra year of warranty on a very reliable car?

And OP is from Jersey where front plates are required I believe.

Right I'm in NJ too, so is the M3 Comp a few posts above (notice the bumper isn't drilled). It's plain wrong to drill the bumpers on an M car. The fact is there are better solutions if you do want to mount the plate, ie. tow hook mount. There are tow hook mounts available from several brands that don't block PDC and are quick release for car washes, and can be taken off for car shows. Actually drilling the bumper is a terrible idea. But hey, look its going to be OP's car so it's up to him. I personally would never drill the bumper under any circumstances, and I have several friends with M cars and none of them have drilled their bumpers.

Regarding the CPO warranty--likely the case here is the 1200 mile service was never performed hence the car doesn't qualify for CPO. Also the inservice date was 6/2017 which means he has like 1 yr 3 months remaining of new car warranty. I think the likely fact the 1200 mile service was skipped should be a non-starter.

The bumper drilling thing reminds me of my grandma - she kept her chairs covered in plastic to protect the look - so they looked like crap forever cause they always had plastic on them.. That's a bit how I feel when I see one of those tow hook mounts - soooo mooch (and yes, I know there are other ways).

To me, I've never seen the holes drilled in my bumpers (yes, even on my M cars!) - they are hidden by the front plate nicely. And not once has a dealer said "well Doug, I'm going to have to lower your trade value because, upon closer inspection, THERE ARE TWO HOLES IN YOUR FRONT BUMPER!". But who knows, maybe it will happen.

And the 1,200 mile service certainly could be a reason they didn't certify it - but don't make the mistake of thinking it IS the only reason - the dealers I ask, always say "we rarely certify a M car - it is not worth the cost"*.

But once again.. CPO, front plate... all personal preference.

And no, the car did not have it's 1,200 mile service done. Well it did, but at 6,383 miles, 14 months after taking ownership. Now how someone does that - when it is free for God's sake, is beyond me.

EDIT: just relaized that BMW is doing .9% on CPOd cars for 5 years. Depending on the rate you are getting from your bank, it just might be worth it to spring for the extra $3,000 - it might lower your monthly.

Don't get a base...wait a little longer while covid continues to wreak havoc on the auto industry and spring for a zcp. Night and day difference.
