Anyone have this installed in a f10 m5 to show? Also does it change the way the HUD look too?

Thought about it when I first bought the car. Just looked cost prohibitive for me. $3k? Nah. But I have it on my wife's F10, love it.
Of course I do like the analog on ours, it's way better than the old school orange look. But many people said the 6WB just wouldn't look right on an M5, it just has to be analog. Well the F90 came out with a digital cluster and most people pretty much forgot about analog. The price for 6WB is lower now. Somebody has to try this!

I think it was a decision made to appease the "purists" and the heritage of //M. BMW has always been lauded for their clear and legible gauges. OK. So? Times have moved on. So much technology elsewhere in the car and they kept this traditional? I wouldn't think 6WB would take away from anything.
There are several other decisions made as well with the F10 M5 such as no electric steering rack, run flat tires or adaptive cruise control. (Thank God about the other 2 but I really wish the car had the ACC!) //M was against "driver's aids" so it could remain a driver's car. Lane departure, blind spot monitoring and collision warning are there purely for safety. But I'm at least thankful our car has luxury features that an M3 doesn't have like cooled seats, electric sunshade, 4 zone climate control and soft close doors. But these luxury items, not to mention the turbos, active sound design, the size and weight of the F10, still made purists complain that that the M5 lost the purity of the E39. To many of them the F10 is their least favorite M5. So with the F90 it just felt like //M was over it and just admitted they moved on. They embraced it all and it comes with all the added things we'd want, most importantly 4WD. All that car is missing is our amazing DCT.

You read too much into what is and isn't on the car. ACC isn't there because there is no extra room on the front of the car what with the 7 radiators the F10 M5 requires. Same for why there are no fog lights.
Equipment wise it's basically an F10 and has pretty much the same options choices. The instrument cluster is odd, I agree with you. |

It's not that I'm reading into it too much. My viewpoint comes from a lot of reading of reviews from that 2013-2017 era that mention all of these points. The general consensus among enthusiast circles of //M during that era was that the original formula had fundamentally changed. It used to be a division of naturally aspirated, manual transmission cars, relatively lightweight and no driver aids and with basic creature comforts. It was clear with the M3/M5 of that era they were going in a different direction. The F90 was finally unapologetically full blown expression of this. The M2 competition, although turbocharged, is arguably the only car //M has today with most of the original formula.
I don't think the lack of ACC has anything to do with the S63 engine architecture. The F90 has fundamentally a very similar engine, yet //M had no issue putting that hockey puck sensor in the center lower air dam. The lack of fog lights on both generations indeed is because of the need for large side air intakes for the radiators, no doubt about that.

Was interested in 6WB also but after extensive search couldn’t find it retrofitted on F10 M5 so raised a query with Bimmertech
Following was reply M Models have the M modes which is not supported in the 6WB retrofit. There's a reason why you haven't found a single video of someone doing this retrofit. If it was possible to do it would have been done years ago. Kind regards, Nelson Louis Senior Sales Specialist US: +1 (646) 439-7920 UK: +44 113 403 3103 |
