#1 - Ensure you get a warranty

#2 - Ask the dealer for the full service history (if not purchasing from a dealer, provide your local dealership with the VIN and ask nicely) Was the Break-In service completed? Possible correlation between no break-in service and engine failure.

Check for leaky turbo coolant lines (remove engine cover and it should be apparent if they are leaking). Not a big job to repair, but pretty easy to identify if there is an existing problem and you'd rather know about it than not.

A car with so few miles will not have much to look for besides cosmetics. The cosmetics will tell you if the car was cared for during all the time it sat around. Look for signs of an accident, etc.

For maintenance it will only have had 2-3 oil changes at most and anything else done would have been time based instead of mileage based.

Regarding a warranty, you should be able to get a decent one for a 2016 but it's only worth it if you don't DIY anything. If you DIY, IMHO, a warranty is a big waste of money.

I would check the options to make sure it has everything you want, you don't want to wish you would have selected a car with ______. When I was shopping I made a list of required, preferred, and not necessary options. I drove about 5 cars before I picked one. The one I bought didn't even look like it had been driven, the inside was pristine, there was no signs of any mods (not even tint), and it had perfect records. There aren't a ton for sale so be sure to open your search up to either country wide or at least 200 miles away. I found Cargurus the best to use for my searching (I wanted to buy from a dealer, not a private sale).

Check engine is good and it's mechanically sound before worrying about cosmetic add ons. Proven yearly oil changes with the diff every other oil change is required for these and make sure first intermediate service was done. New engines for these cost well over 30k. A worn out car can be made to look very presentable by a dealer and buying privately may catch you a better deal.Dealer has to make a profit.

OCI's are subject to how many miles you actually go in between oil changes. Every 3rd oil change is based on 10k miles in between and applies to the earlier F10 M5's. BMW says those produced "as of 07/2013" apparently could go every 5 oil changes, or 50,000 miles.

I've got just over 10k miles on my MY15 and I think the next oil change here soon will be my 5th, so I'm not certain I need to change my diff quite yet. I'm leaning towards Ravenol SLS 75w-140.

Just ordered the Ravenol SLS today. I'm using Ravenol VST 5w-40 for the motor oil and like Ravenol's PAO based products. Will do a UOA on the VST 5w-40 oil when I get around to changing it sometime in the near future.
