1 quart engine oil

driving last night the car gave me a heada up to fill a quart of my engine oil. Went to the dealership today and asked for the 5w30 since its recommended for our m trucks. Guy sold me the 10w60 instead and was told that this is now the oil for newer engines! mine was a 2017 x5m. Is this ok? Appreciate the feedbacks guys

The notice to tap up your oil is normal all depending on how long / how hard you drove since your last oil change but as for that weight of oil I'm unsure because most dealers would tell guys 0-30 with 5-30 being the substitute.

Pretty sure that's not right.

10-60 is what BMW used to put in the E46 M3, totally different engine concept from a bygone age.

Correct spec is 0-30 or 5-30 as above

Garage List
2018 X5 M  [0.00]
2020 M2 CS  [10.00]
2005 BMW X5 4.8is  [0.00]
2006 BMW M3  [10.00]
These guys...
10w-60 is wrong.

It should be the 5w-30 oil, it's nothing special, the regular oil that goes in the non M cars is what it needs.

And the dealer shouldn't top off with 2q for no charge.
