Experience/Feedback After Driving The New G05
So my wife and I bought a 16' F15 35 Diesel. Needless to say, WE LOVE IT. I have owned about 14 BMWs and have loved the driving experience so far. The F15 is very pleasant to drive and is the perfect family car.
So we took it in for a couple small mechanical issues with the interior, not a huge deal, and got a G05 x5 for a loaner. It's loaded with everything but comfort seats or 3rd row. Onto my review. I'll start by saying I hate it, my wife as well. The drive is overly complex and chunky. The lane assist and all the drivers aids are a nuisance and I find myself fighting the car to drive. Finding where to turn them off is challenging as well and found myself needing to attempt to turn them off when I got home. The gauge cluster is not BMW at all. Good luck trying to find the current MPG or even the miles on the car! Too much going on and im somewhat tech savvy. I mean, I build my own gaming PC's lol. BMW has lost their way trying to be super tech savvy which is sad. The new X3 was amazing when we drove it and the X5 falls short. The engine is only heard above 5k rpm. You cant tell the difference between any of the driving modes. The car feels NUMB, I mean NUMB. The F15 when in sport mode feels peppy, you can hear and feel the road much much better. The visibility is worse and the interior is cheap feeling. The temp is no longer a dial, its a push button. I dont know about you but I like spinning it from 70 to 60 in 1 second, not 10 clicks. The buttons on the steering wheel feel cheap and click loudly. The rubber buttons on the F15 steering wheel are now plastic. Rear seat is worse as well, I have 3 car seats in the car and my daughter has trouble buckling herself in on the G05 but not with the F15. Whats improved? The tailgate in the back is powered. The screen is larger and this allows for multi view when backing or getting in tight spots. Beyond that, I see zero improvements, so reconsider buying one if you want to ditch your F15. Consider the X3 or keep your F15. We love the decision we made to buy the F15 diesel. I picked up a CRF50 for my kids the other day which was a 210 mile drive and I averaged 36.1 mpg Knudson- |

Great rant but does it really need to be a separate thread?

HA! I had one for a couple months while they replaced my motor, early 40e engine issue I guess, and can't agree more!
I hated it and wanted my f15 back. When I had my e70 I always thought getting the F15 was a nice change of pace though it lacked the driving feel of the e70 it was a nice pleasant place to be and when me and my wife had the new x5 as a loaner after getting the f15 we where underwhelmed, also agree the interior defiantly feels cheap and just not feeling it. Gimmicky even.... Even if it is modern it's not lux modern. Don't get me started on the exterior. It didn't grow on me at all. Details are nice, each piece on its own is nice and well detailed but as a whole package it's ehhhh. Technology is top shelf but not well thought out. Also don't like the new idrive, way to busy and confusing. |

Very interesting to read. Especially since I've read that in it's later years the F15 sales were dropping and reviews were saying competitors had passed it by. So BMW hustled the G05 out a year early.
As of August, X5 sales were up 11.8% this year.

Seems like the people that like BMWs now days aren't very skilled drivers. Haven't you been on either M3 forum or Bimmer forums for over a decade? I recognize the avatar. My wife hates it and we cant turn off the lane assist Every other "safety" feature can and has been turned off. |

Yes both. Now I have a modern BMW to figure out. Like BFest a lot but this community more active for F15. Will get an oil change in before DIY events end for the year.

I felt the same about the G05 loaner. The driving assist is dangerous period as it likes to swerve back on the road aggressively. You can adjust these settings under "individual" but seems bmw dropped the ball in this thing. Audi's drivers assistance package seems much more precise and less dangerous.
The car is completely numb unless you really get on the thing. I felt the same, I was happy to get my 35d back. The G05 feels more like a cookie cutter sedan than our beloved SAVs that we've enjoyed for years. |

I drove a 2020 X5 40i Xdrive with Msport. I can sum it up by saying it is a very different car. When/if I decide to go from my 18, it will be because I want a different driving experience.
The updated designs are nice, the layout is great - some materials improved, much quieter, but much less a driver's car. More of a peaceful environment/ relaxed driver versus anything sporty. I'd still buy one, but for different reasons.
