Ideal Hot Pressure Range RE-71R Track Use
What hot pressures seem to work best for the RE-71R on the track? I've read on other forums (Porsche, Mustang) of people complaining they start to get greasy around 37 hot and higher pressures.
Will likely be going back to the track in Sept. so want to get a good consensus before I go! |

A lot of the F80/F82s I know that run RE71Rs are 33-34 front, 32 rear.
My Nittos work best in that range as well. I haven't really used a tire (non-slick) that feels good at 35 or higher. |

Good to know. One exception is the MPSS (in case your using them on track - I wanted to wear these out before going to more track capable tires like the RE-71R I know have)- I kept that at 34 cold before each session and would get to 38-42 hot during (then would bleed down to 34 cold again right before following session) and I preserved the relatively soft sidewalks pretty good (since MPSS needs higher pressures to somewhat compensate for softer sidewalks).

BTW - I know I didn't ask this in my original post - but for hot pressures of 32-34 psi - what would the cold pressures usually be right before each session?

I start with 28 all around on a hot day and end up letting pressure out after each session to get it zero'd in. When I leave the track, I'm anywhere between 24-26 cold. |

I start around 27 cold in the morning and them bleed them throughout the day to keep them around 34 hot. They still get greasy after a few hot laps without traffic.
I would suggest run them as low as you can so long as you don't get rollover onto the sidewalls. |

I would think you would get rollover if you are 32psi or under while hot. above 38 hot you might get inner tread wear and rapidly increase temps.
I noticed on my MP4S (similar tire) I started getting really greasy on my last session of the last day after having no traffic for 3-4 laps. My hot psi was 34-35 and my air temps per TPMS were (I think) around 156degF when they got slippery on me. It did cause (or allow) me to have a really fun controlled powerslide on the uphill section of the boot at Watkins Glen, but braking was severely impacted after that. |
