White (blue?) smoke when accelerating fast

I just noticed smoke when putting the engine in Sport+ and accelerating to 50 mph. Can't tell if this would be considered white or blue smoke. I rarely accelerate fast, so I'm not sure if this is just typical for these V8 engines with their oil consumption, or if there's more to it. I have not noticed this in other situations really, and as soon as I let off the gas the smoke stopped.

. It's a 2014 X5 50i with 34k miles (bought second-hand at 30k miles). I have extended warranty that covers gaskets and the like, so I don't mind taking it in if it's something that needs to be fixed.

Another N63 engine says bye-bye. Hope you got some sort of warranty - it's burning oil.

That same smoke under wot was one of the symptoms from my wifes 650i a couple years back but in all driving modes, gaskets got fried with leaks everywhere engine was replaced under warranty. Wouldn't worry too much as you have warranty just don't drive around until you have it checked out.

Well, that RR Dawn driver isn't particularly happy about the issue either

Do you have any oil consumption during your ownership?

Exclusionary coverage for 5 years or up to 100k miles, luckily. Will pay for itself after this is sounds like.

Thanks, I'll get in touch with my dealership.

Yeah, I felt like a jerk when I noticed it. Definitely not trying to roll coal!

Nothing more than the average 50i driver I think? Had the car for 7 months now, drove 4000 miles, saw the "low oil" warning light twice and got it topped off. I hardly ever floor it, so if oil gets by the gaskets under high pressure only I wouldn't have noticed it.

In my experience with 50i, I think if you hardly ever floor it, then topping off two times in 4000 miles is beyond average.....

Let dealer check the valve stem seals, it will go bad easily if the previous owner didn’t do oil change regularly.

Keep us posted with the results.

Pretty sure it's burning oil. Have a mechanic look at it. Could be something simple like the crankcase ventilation. Or perhaps a turbo seal going bad.

Blue smoke usually means burning oil.
