iDrive 6 / Carplay - best way to upgrade from 2016 X5

I am going to buy 2016 X5 but really want iDrive 6.0 with the live tiles.

What is the best way to upgrade to iDrive 6 + Carplay?

I realize Unichip seems like solution for Appple Carplay but I also want live tiles from iDrive 6.

Looks like NBT Evo ID6 is what I need?

They have ID5 which can be coded to 6.

Search a little man. There are many posts about guys who have done the upgrade. And yes it can be done. Not cheap.

You will also loose functionality if you update.

Theirs quite a few things you won't be able to do if you swap.

Just off the top of my head you loose the ability to have any connected features
Real time traffic
The ability to use the bmw app to unlock , lock , and preheat the x5. Mines an 40e so I can precondition from my phone.

And also the bmw assist / sos button.

Basically you loose so much I decided against it.

Now you can go the AVIN route and get the looks of the id6 with CarPlay and still maintain the features as well as gain touch screen capability and whatnot for around 500 or so.

Going OEM will cost you 2700 or more abs you'll loose features.

I don't believe X5s ever got full ID6 - with the gesture controls etc.
Or at least I haven't seen a 2018 with that - could be wrong though.

This is currently the only way you'll get the look of id6 with apple car play and not loose any functionality.

It's not the real deal but it gives you CarPlay.

Going OEM will get you wireless CarPlay however. But it comes with a cost.

ID6 with gestures? Or ID6 lite? I’ve had two 2018 loaner X5s and neither had gestures or anything other than what’s included in ID6-lite, which can be easily coded on an older ID5 system. Things may be different for Canadian versions though.
