As I get closer to leaving the country and thinking of finances while I'm not using the car. Is it worth it to keep for 3 years when no one will use it?

What to do....

As of May 21, 2019...
56,2## I forgot to remember the exact number
2010 M3 DCT, originally a Hawaii car (I'm the 6th owner based on the car fax, I think 2 were considered dealership owners). I had it shipped to WA state Fall 2017, stayed there until May 2019 in CA
Just did a 1400+ mile from San Antonio, TX to CA May 17
No issues aside from me changing the battery along the way
Rod bearings done at 52,### (BE bearings, ARP bolts), NGK spark plugs, I forget which water pump but it’s the GT racing one (metal impeller), t-stat changed, DCT sump filter, gasket changed, diff fluid drained and filled, power steering fluid drained filled, BMC intake filter (3k miles on), rogue engineering test pipes (clamped, will include the primary catalytic converters with new in box Bosch pre-02 cat sensors), stock straight x-pipe (deleted 2ndary cats/resonators), iPE F1 titanium/burnt blue tips exhaust with 1 remote, will give all the alpine tunes and cable from stage 1 to updated stage 2, 8600 rpm rev limiter, that hard steering wheel feel, GTS DCT transmission file, touchscreen kenwood head unit with Bluetooth, radar hared wired (not sure which radar, it was installed when I got the car) and reverse camera mounted, air lift suspension 3P (I think it’s 5 gallon air tank with 2 compressors)
Forcewerkz side skirt diffuser, forcewerkz e92 rear bottom diffuser
JL motoring rear diffuser, trunk spoiler
All CF 2x2
Apex EC-7 18x10 et 25 squared, 255/35/18, 285/35/18 nankang ns-25 tires alignment done 2k miles ago, same with oil 1800 miles ago always liqui moly
GT4 front lip rep with skid plate already installed and extra GTS lip all paint matched alpine white with skid plate that next owner needs to install if they wanted too.

Comes with my 3, 5, 8, 12, 15, 20mm spacers and bolts, it already has the hex stud conversion from APEX and Project Kics R40 hyper black lugs with key, changed the front window black liner due to cracking from the Hawaiian sun when I first got it. I would recommend changing the rear window rubber as well. Being a 10 yr old car, good maintenance to change the alternator and starter. Alternator is still healthy, battery voltage motor off is at 12.9-13.1, battery on idle 13.9, idling up to 2k, battery voltage at 13.9-14.1.

Three instances since I had the transmission oil drained and filled (5L) (labor was done when the rod bearings were changed) when I ran the car cold and went over small speed bumps, the gear symbol popped up and would go into safety mode, skipping gears 2, 4 and 6. After pulling to the side, turn off the motor and restart, no codes and no more faults. I believe the code was CFA7 and another code, it was 2 codes that were read at M-Technik at the first instance. Nothing needed to be cleared out. They test drove it til the transmission was warm, still no faults, no leaks, no obstructive noises. It was suspected it had gone into safety mode because of the new FRM module that was replaced under warranty and when it went over the speed bumps, the code read that there was no electrical communication between transmission and ECU (that was the explanation that I got). For the last 3k miles of hard driving and highway driving from TX to CA it didn't pop up again. Even going through twisties from Mexicali to San Diego mountains on I-8 (4k ft elevation).

I have an e92/e93 book manual (I couldn't find an E90 manual at the time I was searching, will come with an alpine white oem slit open tow hook cover with the black Mashimarho tow hook strap. Never installed aluminum BimmerWorld BMW Pedal Set - DCT Transmission
https://www.bimmerworld.com/BimmerWo...nsmission.html
Ziza white LED interior lights kit never installed, the rear license plate is already LED
European amber rear taillights already installed
Bavgruppe LED CF eyebrow and DTM eyebrows, upgraded Osram Cool Blue Boost Xenarc HID Xenon Headlight Bulbs 7000K (these bulbs are brighter than the stock high beams that are still installed), brand new headlights cover, 2.5" Mini H1 Clear Lens Headlight Upgrade (instead of the light line cut off, it's the whole thing), the right stock orange bulb would occasionally give the bulb warning that it's about to die but it's not dying out), amber side markers are coded out as well as the adaptive headlight movement, I wanted to do away with the headlights moving to reduce the chance of the wires interfering headlight movement and they're brighter and cover more area than stock bulbs. Car is EDC, that was coded out as well, module is still in the rear passenger side, it's just unplugged. For the airlift, I left a bunch of fuses in case the compressor would die (which was dying when I only had one compressor installed, now that I have 2 it has never blown and I can keep playing with the air settings on the fly within seconds of changing my mind)

Blower motor wiring recall was done in Feb 2019 by Bellevue, WA dealership, FRM module recall was done by San Antonio, TX dealership, next owner and all e9x owners should consider checking with the dealership for the Intelligent battery sensor recall as well.

2 shops can vouch for the vehicle, Ian from ISgarage at WA state who did all the labor since my ownership. And Alex from M-technik in San Antonio, TX who read the codes, last oil change.

I will have buyers remorse having finally found my dream car. Will I be butt hurt not being sold? No. Would it practically make sense to keep it when I won't be driving it for the next 3 to 6 years? Maybe not.

Every single bit that I have listed will go with the car. I'm sure I'm leaving out some more parts to include. Would start at $40,000.

Haven't been away from an E90 for the past 9 years

Made my own Home Depot skid plate
Apex EC-7 18x10 et 25 squared
Nankang tires 255/35/18, 285/35/18 (probably 3-4k miles on them)
Forcewerks USA CF side skirts with alpine white vinyl strip along the side
Forcewerks rear bottom diffuser made to fit an e92 m3 but really fits e90 as well with some creative zip ties
Tee CF rear bumper fins with SS bolts
Paint corrected the car before it made its ship transport way from WA to TX but got all jacked up from the dirt and debris along the way (driver thought he was doing me a favor and cleaning it before delivery...nah) but that's easy work for me since I do my own detailing just time consuming
have both OEM chrome and black kidney grills
have Mashimarho raw aluminum intake scoops

Alpine stage 2 tune and coding, rogue engineering test pipes, still have stock primary cats and new pre-cat o2 sensors, deleted stock x-pipe, GTS DCT transmission flash, brake fluid, steering fluid, diff fluid, DCT filter, sump, fluid changed, water pump/tstat and fluids, accessory belts, blower motor recall, FRM module recall, SS bimmer world brake lines, air lift 3P suspension, dinan intake plus extra BMC filter, cabin filters changed, DIY Bavgruppe vision angel eyes with CF LED eyebrow, original TA's, Coby alcantara steering wheel, red stripe, alcantara steering wheel trim, I forget which paddles, red M wheel button and red start button not installed, white LED interior lights, liqui moly oil change every 5k miles, next one is next week (2k miles after RB change), paint match stick, paint match GT4 lip and paint matched GTS double lip, new battery 2 years ago, original alternator and starter

Better off selling it than to leave it sitting there, unless you can have someone watch over it for 3 years.

Sell the car but first sell me some of your parts first.

A little over 54,200 I think. It'll probably be around 56k by the time I leave it in San Diego after driving here from TX.

Thanks

Sell it.

Keeping cars while deployed/stationed overseas as an absolute money pit. You'll get less for it three years from now + cost of storage + worrying about your car = not worth it
