HELP!!! Any Ideas what this could be

I have a BMW F15 35d and I am at my wits end with this noise. I look forward to your ideas on what this could be.

Someone put a John Deere engine in your BMW?

An old mechanic friend of mine, sometimes used a cut off garden hose (about 3-4ft long), to try to pinpoint where noises came from.
Held one end to his ear, and moved other end around in the engine compartment, until noise was the loudest. Claimed it worked great, but I have never tried it.

This sounds like something is hitting the fanblade, a bad water pump, or AC clutch having issues. But I'm just guessing..
Good luck figuring it out!

How many miles do you have on it l, it’s rattling so I could be something as easy as a loose heat shield or worst case scenario timing chain rattle (common on first gen n57 engine in Europe). You should make another video this time slowly rev it and see if the sound changes or dissappear.

Tone doesn't change. the noise gets faster when rpms increase. I will post another video showing this.

Does the car labor at all when driving? Full power available?

What kind of gas mileage are you currently getting?

Was this something that came on suddenly or did you start to hear it and it has gradually gotten worse.

Didn't see this first time around, sounds quite fast so I'm guessing top of engine, poss exhaust gas leak or maybe even loose injector. Worth checking the inlet manifold too. I would get a smoke test on inlet and exhaust and check injectors then take of the rocker and check the top of the engine if you hadn't found it by then.

I would plug a tool to it to verify the modules first. I had a cracked PCV hose in my X5 and never got warnings or anything. Noticed it when cleaning my engine bay 🤷🏽
