Little power in reverse & water leak

So, my E70 4.8i could easily back my 2500# RV up my steep inclined driveway. My new to me F15 35i cannot do it...I have to get a running start!

What is up with that

Even with no trailer, I notice the reluctance of the X5 to want to back up my driveway.

Without checking the figures, I can only assume that a NA 4.8 V8 has way more low down torque than the turbo I6 3.0, and reverse being the lowest ratio, you would notice it that much more....

Actually, the torque difference is only about 50 ft-lbs or so, if memory serves. It is not a torque issue, it seems the engine computer is limiting the amount of power available when in reverse...sort of feels like limp mode.

Weird, do you have any access to a code reader?

Yes, I can read faults and code modules. But, no faults. My wife even complained about backing the X5 up the driveway yesterday without a trailer load.

Incidentally, she backed up the driveway so the nose of the car is down during an anticipated rain storm so the right rear electronic compartment wont flood. Can anyone give me advice on how to clear the rear sunroof drains? Where do they exit?

Perhaps bmw programs the x5 to partial power in reverse. Because who really needs full throttle in reverse?

ME! . So, our solution: Before backing up the driveway, disconnect the F15 and connect the E70 4.8i to the trailer. Then, easily back it up the driveway.

Open your trunk hatch. Along the roof line, there will be two little flaps. Those are drains for the rear sunroof. You can clean the channels from that end. Number 7 and 10 on this diagram.

Thanks. drains seems clear. String/long zip tie was easily pushed through the tube and I saw the other end when looking above the headliner with sunroof open. Water still leaking in. i hope the sunroof cassette is not cracked. Or....
