BMW Update UPD05081

I have been having tons of issues with USB Audio playing back and dealer told me there was an software update.

After update my info are as following

MN-002.034.071
TN-002.034.070
HN-003.255.080

However, this did NOT solve any problem and now i think it's more frequently.

Did some search, most of you F15s are MN-003.xxx TN-003.xxx
did I miss an update? mine are still 002 not 003. Is this just because mine is 2014?

I have a 15' 35i and my UPD05081 package sits at:

MN-002.255.071
TN-002.255.080
HN-003.255.080

I believe that if the dealership does the update it will bump you to 003.. , it's worth a shot considering you're having audio issues, and it's gotten worse. The UPD pkg on the website seems to be old.

Did the dealer update or you? Online bmw website is out of date.

What kind of issues? I've been having issues with mine as well. When I plug in my iPhone via the usb, it connects and disconnects, connects and disconnects. It's really annoying. Finally just put a cigarette lighter adapter in to charge the phone and use Bluetooth for all the audio. Would prefer a better solution than this though.

Did you try a different lightening cable? This happens to any of my cars whenever the cable starts falling apart.

I have 2014 as well, dealer got mine updated about a year ago, no issues since. Check here too:

I did replace the cable. I thought that may have been the issue, but, it still does it.

My original iDrive head unit had a problem with charging my iPhone X and audio playback issues. The dealer tried updating the software to no avail.

I read on the forum that they revised the hardware in the head units that in post late 2016 builds, they fixed this problem.

I was getting a "No Signal" problem, so my dealer was able to replace the head unit under warranty with a newer one. This new unit does not have any problems with charging my phone nor any audio playback issues.


Might not be the kind of solution you want to hear, but it might a hardware problem.

Well, for the price of a new head unit, I'll stick with my cigarette adapter and bluetooth connection. Everything else works fine.

Had the same issues (MY 2015), and for me it did turn out to be the lightning cable: only a (new) Apple OEM cable works, a new non-OEM cable has the same problem.
The problem started with an Apple OEM cable that got squeezed between the armrest a couple of times. At first it would still work depending on how I held it but in the end it didn't matter anymore, same problems as you describe...

About UPD05081: downloaded the package from the German BMW website(*) and updated:

installed 26 Sept 2016 --> 9 April 2019 (UPD05081)
MN-003.001.002 --> 003.009.004
TN 003.001.002 --> 003.255.080(-013.039)
HN (didn't show at the time) --> 003.255.080

bmw.com/update -> entered all 17 digits VIN -> stated car was up to date...
https://www.bmw.de/de/topics/faszina...es-update.html -> entered last 7 digits VIN -> states this update (UPD05081) is only valid for cars with production date between Nov 2012 and Feb 2013... The related PDF however includes the versions stated above, and as they're newer than the ones I had my the car, I ignored this info and performed the update without issues...

Good to know. I guess I'll try that. I think right now we're using an old Apple cable and I had replaced it with a new Amazon one. They're supposed to be "certified", but who knows.

Have a service appointment tomorrow, wondering if I should see if they'll update my firmware as I'm sitting on UPD05081 from the website myself. Haven't had any issues with anything/coding.. Hmm

I update my X5 F15 with UPD 05080 it works properly . no change with the MN: 003.001.002
However i see that where is a more recent MN version than mine which is 003.001.002 , the latest wrote on the PDF document is MN 003.013.001 .

How to do to obtain this latest version?

Just received my F11 LCI 2015 after the retrofit of the PPK B47
It received the latest I-step.

No issues with iPhone anymore, let’s see on the next iOS update

Needed to put new disks brakes, so I did the PPK that brings the entire front brakes.
After the PPK it’s a new car

I know this thread is a little old, but I just traded my 16 340i in for a 16 x5 35i m sport. I love everything about it and even the tech seems newer despite the same model year. However, on my 340i, I had full visibility and control of my Spotify and other apps from the iDrive system. With the new x5, I have no control or visibility. It's pretty frustrating overall.

I did do an update by thumb drive from the website, but I'm wondering if a dealer update might be warranted. I've searched the site and can't find info on how to fix this.

I'm using an Android (One+ 7) and have tried both over USB (only get destinations, no apps), and Bluetooth (I get sound, but no control or info).

What you had is Connected drive, which is a subscription service ($50 per year). Most likely subscription expired on your x5, that's why you don't have. Welcome to BMW add-on program.

Sorry - I should have been more clear.
I have connected drive (currently subscribed) and I had connected drive.

However, that is not what I was using. I was simply using Bluetooth through my "Media" option on my iDrive.

So, when I would load "Media" and selected my BT device, my track, album, and artist would show up and I could use steering wheel controls as well as my dash buttons to move forward and backward.

It's not Connected Drive where I have full control of the app.

Now, all I see is "Unknown Album, Unknown Artist, Unknown Track" and I cannot skip nor reverse.

It's Apps, also a paid service, it requires a one time activation.

Just go into your media player/spotify and press play. That typically fixes it for me.
