Best method for frozen/matte look
Hi all!
First thread on the forum. Last weekend I became the happy owner of a BSM 2016 F82. I live in dusty west texas and told myself I'd never buy a black car again. Yet here I am. I also told myself as soon as I got the car I would get it wrapped in xpel stealth. I always loved the frozen/satin black look but never could find a frozen black M4 for sale. I decided to save the money, get a BSM M4 and wrap it with xpel stealth. It seems like a high quality product that will provide protection, give me the look I desire, and allow me the freedom to remove it at any time. After searching around on this forum, I'm questioning that decision. Is xpel stealth the most cost effective, best-looking strategy? Should I just get it painted satin/frozen black? How much would that cost? Is there a better satin wrap than xpel steath? Any and all advice would be appreciated. |

I have factory frozen black and wrapped the whole car with xpel stealth and ceramic coating. I believe xpel come with 5+ years warranty, if it turns yellow or peeling then its covered by your installer. Wrapping your car will be much cheaper option, but it will not show the metallic in the paint. I can still see red / blue / yellow flicks in my frozen paint.

I did Suntek Matte on my mineral gray F80. Not black, but concept similar, and I think it turned out very well. I've heard from more than one installer that Suntek is a bit easier to work with compared with Xpel, so ask around on that. I combined this with a DIY ceramic coating using CarPro's CQuartz UK 3.0, which is fairly easy to do. Then maintain with Reload. With this combo, you still get a nice sheeny/semi-glossy finish on the matte PPF -- which for me yields a very appealing look. Best of both worlds IMO.
