I've dealt with a few of these. It's basically a grey market vehicle (not built to US standards as you have said) Carfax and autocheck won't populate on these cars.. So that may be difficult.

You have to get it legally imported and converted to US standards. (emissions, cluster changed to mph, DOT compliant) and usually pay a hefty tax on importing the car. While I don't know the exact cost for an M3 ive seen other similar Canadian built cars cost 5k just to be imported and converted. Hope this helps!

Once the car has been imported the company (or whomever imports the car) will place or rivet a plate on the door jamb next to the manufacturer VIN sticker stating the car has been legally imported into the US and it meets all requirements to be on the road here. Hope this helps!
