Importing car from Canada to California - Mods (AA midpipe)

Hi All

Question for you. I have a 2017 M3 from Canada. Planning on moving to the bay area and dont want to sell my car yet since it's only been under 2 years. My stay in California is expected to be 1 to 2 years.

I was thinking of bringing my M3 with me. I'm reading online and it appears I need to get an emission test done. Currently have AA midpipe on it. Wondering if I should take it off or keep it on. Any thoughts?

Most likely you have to take it off for the smog test.

Well, you still got primary cats so I feel like it'll pass smog. You can certainly try to do it and hope for the best or be safe and stock it up before you test it

Your OK with just the mid pipes.

I've only smogged a car once, they didn't look. Just seeing what others are experiencing

I had to smog my e92 and the guy plugged my car in to a computer with my engine running. He then pop the hood and looked around with a flashlight and proceeded to look under the car and last look at my exhaust. After the visual inspection, he looked at the computer, typed some stuff in and said I was good to go. He said the smog certificate was sent to the dmv. So there is a visual inspection You have to pass.
