BMW extended warranty paid

Just bought a 7 year/100K BMW Platinum warranty for my 2016 F15 diesel, it's my wife's car and she drives many, many miles. Attached is the list price. My dealer sold it to me for $5849, which was $650 off MSRP. For sure, a lot of money, and a good argument could be made to put that money in the bank and save it for repairs vs. buying the warranty, but I'd rather just keep it easy.

The cost for BMW's extended warranties is insane. We purchased a 8yr/100k extended CPO warranty for the wife's Lincoln for $1850. The 9yr/125k option was only $550 more and they offered even longer terms for fairly reasonable prices (considering the time/mileage being offered). That's a LOT of warranty for less than 1/2 of what BMW charges. Now, I know the Lincoln is a lower cost vehicle, but still...

BMW in freehold no longer offers CPO, sells the car cheaper and then offers their own 100k mile warranty. I think I paid about $2k for warranty.

My extended CNA automotive preferred care plus warranty (exclusionary policy) on a recently purchased 2014 F15 50i with 30k miles came to $5,500, with a $200 deductible waived if taken to the dealership. It's good for 5 years/70k miles (so up to 100k).
It was purchased at the BMW dealership, and the main reason I went for this warranty is because it covers commercial vehicles. There are a bunch of cheaper ones, through my credit union for example, but they exclude any vehicle used for commercial purposes, no matter the activity.

I had an e70 35 M-Sport before this, and honestly it drove really well. I just wanted to get back into something with more power (owned an e46 M3 and an e39 M5, among others) and I needed the cargo space. I looked at an X5 M, but I had an e61 535iT a number of years ago and I don't know what it is, but I really like wagons, so I got this.

Now, if BMW ever brought the M550d wagon over here......

I did the same for my F16. Imagine not having to worry about calling for approval or trying to fend for your vehicle at some off-BMW site or at BMW 6yrs down the road at 99K miles for a problem that would have been fixed w/o question at 1K miles, just drive into the service lane..

I like the peace of mind and if you ever decide to sell the vehicle, what a tremendous selling tool-to transfer peace of mind. Much more value than just a number imo.

I'm an avid DIY'er and wondering if I should get the extended warranty. My warranty is due to expire in March 2019. I have 3 other bimmers (non-M) that I maintain myself and I have established great relationship with my local dealer wherein I buy parts at wholesale prices (same as repair shops).

I'm finding it hard to justify spending $5k+ for this warranty. Am I making a terrible mistake not to get one? I intend to keep the M for as long as it lasts, just like my other 3 bimmers.

That sure is a lot of money for a warranty. BMW must be the most expensive for an extended warranty. Mercedes is not near that much. Too bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 7 year period starts from the vehicle sale date,so you actually bought 4.5 years of warranty. I wounder if someone over here tried other extended warranty programs from the 3rd party.

Hahahaha, no, not so much. I saw his review of his 2012. I got a kick out of all the shots at various gas stations. But he should have gotten a 2014+.

The warranty took care of a shot tranny on my e60 earlier.

I need to get warranty on the x5 once the factory one runs out next summer.
