DCT review by a formula 1 driver

I did drive an F1 car on GT4

So finally got to drive the DCT M3 today. I paid attention to the issues others have pointed out (slow throttle response when taking off, slow response after you hit the paddle). The throttle thing is not good. I pushed the pedal down 10% of the way and it moved forward a bit, but then form 10 to 50% it did little more. So I kept going and then it REALLY took off. Not sure how BMW sent it to market like this - very unnatural and disconcerting. I suppose they are looking to have nice long throttle travel in 1st gear to avoid jerking on and off the gas, but this is taken to an extreme. It would be nice if this was just a "feature" that could be turned off.

The delay after hitting the paddle was apparent in the 3rd manual mode, but less so in M5. And the M5 crispness is awesome. The rev-matching on downshifting is beautiful - I ran down from 6th to 1st one-by-one and even going from 2nd to 1st gear at 25 mph or so was perfectly smooth and executed.

Gearing in the acceleration gears was much better than the manual. 2nd-6th gears are NICE and close - the revs stay up in the HP zone the entire time. Overall a HUGE improvement over the SMG, and an incredible auto and racing gearbox in one. If they change the 2 issues it is perfect.

But it was clever way to get us to click!

lol j/k but yea i agree with you. But then again if you have tech package then you can have sport plus which makes throttle response much better.
