Spotify app stopped working

Hi guys so the Spotify app stopped showing up so I gotta control the music from my phone now. It doesn't even let me pause. Every time I click the pause button it just immediately starts playing again. Tried disconnected my phone (removing from Bluetooth devices) and made sure everything is updated and still nothing. Been like this for like 2 months now I think. If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great

Had exactly the same issue! I think it’s a Spotify bug. There’s some talk on the Spotify community forums regarding this issue. Other problems: 1) no audio ducking when using waze 2) no access to albums / playlists from iDrive

I stopped using Spotify and went back to Apple Music. None of the above issues.

Works fine in my car, can open the app via idrive. Can select play list, pause, next track, previous track etc... Works like it always has. Weird

Are you using Spotify iDrive app? The BMW apps stuff. Hmm, probably the way to go about it. Using without the BMW app integration is crap.

Correct. I'm using the Spotify app in idrive.

You probably have to renew your BMW Connected Drive subscription. Not cool BMW charges for this.

Whaaaaat is that what it is?? That's ridiculous I have to pay to use an app that lets me control my Spotify from idrive? Are you positive?

Yes, any of the 'certified by bmw' apps in idrive requires the subscription. I just use plain old bluetooth. It works just fine, can skip songs and everything I need just fine. Even album art still shows up. Sucks you have to use the actual phone sometimes to start, but if you have recently used spotify, it'll start playing as soon as you get in the car.

Wow did not know that I guess that's what my problem is. Only issue with using Bluetooth is I can't get it to charge and stream audio through Bluetooth at the same time. When I plug my phone in it always reverts to audio output via USB

Also for some reason I literally cannot pause the music. If I click pause on my phone it'll stop for a second and then immediately start playing again on its own

What happens when you press the radio volume button? For me, it mutes the radio and also pauses the playback on my phone.

Pressing the radio button does work, but it mutes all audio from the phone. If you’re using Waze for instance, you won’t hear the turn-by-audio. Super frustrating.

Yes I noticed that as well. If I'm waiting in the car for someone and I want to watch a video on my phone I can't stream the audio because my music is playing over it

Everything Spotify related is horrible, HORRIBLE. Android app, iphone app, desktop app, in-car stuff, login security, etc. is all terrible, has been for years and they don't seem to make any improvements or even acknowledge it really. Add in finicky iDrive software, where things like this seem to be an afterthought, and you don't have a very good experience.

I STILL can't, and never been able, to get Spotify to come up under apps via Bluetooth with my S9+. Didn't work with S7 Edge either.

This started happening to me as well..spotify would not show up in the idrive alm of a sudden.

My fix was to go the spotify app permission page on my phone and enabled storage permission

My Spotify idrive app takes a good 5 minutes to load on initial startup...works fine with regular BT or usb audio, but I like the added functionality of the Spotify connected app...just not the obnoxiously long startup time.

I have the same issue. One other issue I have is when my phone is plugged in via USB, there is a discrepancy between volume levels from other sources and Spotify. When listening to Spotify, the volume has to be over 50% or greater.

Does anyone else have this issue, and is there a fix? Maybe something coding related?

Update to my previous post:

Seems like Spotify have been aware of this issue for a number of years, but haven't done anything to resolve:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/iOS...e/td-p/1395452

It's a shame when companies don't listen to their customers in order to address their issues, which in most cases, would lead to an improvement in the user experience.
