Wireless Charger

New Apple Watch ✓
New iPhone XS Max ✓
M3 Wireless Charging? Nope!

Man I am bummed that it's so close to fitting but not quite. I am considering removing the rubber grommet on the top to allow a bit of room. Looks irreversible though so curious what others have done?

Thanks

Update: sliced the rubber piece and cut the two plastic sides off with a utility knife. Fits and charges! Woo hoo

I only had to shave off maybe 1/8" basically just square it up because it is at an angle which causes the phone to pop up

yeah i tried to just pull the rubber thing at the top out. it’s stuck in there with something so i’ll probably have to cut it if i want the wireless charging.

Honestly I would cut it if I were you. Mine looks great and you wouldn't have known it isn't stock

So does your phone get really hot while charging, especially if you are using a few apps with it on the wireless charger (like a navigation app or a music app)?

Yeah it's very warm but I wouldn't say hot

See how well it works on long drives (30+ min) while using multiple apps on the phone (like for navigation, music, etc). In my case, anything longer than about 30 min or so and my phone will get so hot, it will shutdown due to overheating - and that is with one app running like Waze or Google Maps. Now, I use an iPhone 6s with a wireless charging sleeve, since the iPhone 6s was never originally designed for wireless charging. However, when I use any other wireless charger, my phone hardly gets warm which makes me think the BMW wireless charger is the problem, not my phone/sleeve combo.

Hopefully the heat issue is not an issue with the newer iPhones with built in wireless charging....

I think part of the issue is it's inside a closed box. Maybe?

Have you guys seen this thread?

SteveC90 has provided the design and I am having it made for less than £10 here in the UK.

I would assume it would be fairly simple to purchase any of the high quality and inexpensive Qi chargers at any reputable establishment, and make something work in the same area. Or even where the cup holders are or something. Obviously, easier said then done, but I don't think it would be too difficult for someone who really wanted to do it.

I don't think so. I have left the armrest open as an experiment and it did not make a difference. I even bought the OEM BMW wireless charging sleeve as it was more open on the back (assuming it would help with better cooling) but my phone would still overheat.

That area inside the armrest is a bit warm anyway since it is right above the transmission tunnel - but not much. However, it is very obvious that the extra heat generated is from the wireless charging process.
