1200mi service, and a new issue

Getting 1200mile service today (woot!), and in the meantime they're also checking the car out for another issue that came up. I wanted to check to see if anyone here is experiencing it also:

My steering wheel produces what can only be described as a creaking sound when I turn it. This is not dependent on speed, and nor is it dependent on tilt/telescoping of the steering column. My SA is speculating that this might be some bushing in the column, so they're going to keep the car overnight.

This sound familiar to anyone?

sorry to hear about your problems - I hope it works out fine.

I just picked mine up from the 1.200 miles service and no issues here...

It looks pretty minor, so I'm not worried about it. I was just curious to see if others had seen the issue, since I hadn't seen it mentioned here.

In any case, I'm very much looking forward to finally being able to open this car up!

Update: Car is back from service, and the issue appears to be resolved. Per the mechanics who looked at the vehicle, it was some problem with the left front strut tower, which was replaced. The symptom is gone.

They replaced the left front strut tower? SUrely you mean they replaced a part associated with the tower, as replacing the tower itself would require an enormous amount of body work and labor!

He probably meant strut bar. I don't see how that would fix something like that though. Or perhaps he meant left front strut?

Here is what was written by the mechanic on the work order (this is really scary):

"Drove the vehilce with shop foreman and listen to the noise, found that the noise is coming some where in the dash area. Lift the vehicle up on the rack listen for the noise under the vehicle and there was no noise under the vehicle. Took the micro filter cavers off and the plastic caver under the micro filters off. Took the brase lines out and listen to the noise the noise when away form dash area. Then checked the noise on the strut tawer, found that the noise is coming from left front strut tawer. Need to replace the left front strut ture and recheck. Took the strut out. Took the strut tawer out. Install the new strut tawer. Install the strut. Drove the vehicle and checked for noise, there is no noise detected at this time."

This was from BMW of Fremont. To their credit, the noise is gone and so far the car appears to be running great.

I don't think I would want somebody working on my car that can't even spell "tawer" correctly!

That and I assume he doesnt even know what the tower is since he simply removed and replaced something he identified as the "tower".

I'm starting to hear a strange noise when I come in at an angle onto my driveway at approximately 2-3mph. Any other speed, I do not get it...anyone else with something similar?
