UHMW lip spoiler protection for scrapes
Has anyone tried applying anything under their lip spoilers to prevent damage from scrapes? Obviously won't help with hitting something square, but especially those with CF lips, it would be nice to prevent the minor scraping.
My first course of action is to use some UHMW tape. UHMW is extremely durable, low friction characteristics, and very durable. If that doesn't work, I might try fabricating an under-spoiler skid plate out of 1/8" UHMW plastic sheet. Only hangup is how to attach - first thought was 3M molding tape, but I'm not sure if it will stick to the UHMW. Only other option would be some sort of permanent adhesive. Has anyone given this a shot? In my Google search, it seems only Porsche and Lotus owners have considered this. |

Very interested in your results.
I really want something made out of metal. I know a guy that makes metal belly pans for Subies and Nissans and thought about contacting him. He flaked on me while trying to do a belly pan for the E9X M3 though so can't bring myself to do it. There is a member who does metal belly pans for the E9X M3 and I exchanged emails with him a month or so back. He said he would be interested in making metal lip protection for the F8x but would need an in person volunteer, he's in Texas though. If we could get a Texan that's interested to hit him up it may work out. Hope you have some luck, there are many waiting for a solution. |

Also subscribed and interested in solutions. Replacing a Vorsteiner lip that was destroyed at the Dealer doing an oil change. Concerned about a repeat.

Got the UHMW tape. It would probably help a little, but it's just not as thick as I wanted, so I'm going the solid route. I ordered a 4x8' sheet of 1/8" material. I already have a cardboard template made of the underside of the lip spoiler, which I'll use to get my preferred shape. The goal is to make it completely invisible, so the footprint will be smaller than the lip. It will be attached with 3m VHB tape to the underside of the lip. We'll see if that's enough to hold everything securely in place.

A few questions; What lip do you have? What solid material are you going with? Would be interested in pictures of what you're working with if you have the time, just out of curiosity. |

This has been working perfect for me and my MPerformance lip. I scrape my lip daily because of my driveway and this has been taking all the impact/damage. Its not noticable and has not come loose yet. I will imagine i would have to replace it after a few months which isn't bad at all.
I recommend you get two of these and line them up two rows together under the lip. having two lined up directly behind each other helps the front one not get pushed back enough to come loose. I have the first one lined up right at the edge of the MP lip and surprisingly that one doesn't hit the ground. Its the second one that hits all the time due to the angle of the lip. I might go back and add a third row for extra protection at some point. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Truck-3...53.m2749.l2649

FYI, emailed iND to see if they would be interested in coming up with a solution. iND stated they have already been working on a solution and should have test samples out next week.

Subscribed! My Vorsteiner has seen much better days. I actually ordered some epoxy and will try sanding it down and repairing, so fingers crossed. This will be done on the top/front where you can see damage, so I realize it's not what you are talking about protecting here, but I'm eager to hear options for that as well.

McMaster Carr sells UHMW sheet for cheap enough that it should be pretty cost effective to make a few protective pieces. I don't have a lip yet, but thinking aloud, it should be pretty easy to create a template and cut some 1/8" UHMW sheet on the bandsaw to sit under the lip. Then just countersink a few screws into the UHMW to attach to the lip. The UHMW will wear over time if it's constantly scraping, so it'll probably have to be replaced at some point.

Nice! I was told that it is a rubber like material. Can't wait. I want a CF lip but can't commit to the purchase with there being no solution available to protect it. Unless I buy Status Gruppe's lip of course.

That's correct. We will also offer optional Xpel + ceramic coating on the lips.
