Scarring found in cyclinder walls
Please help with advice: purchased 2012 e93 with inspection... started getting increased emission code, had dealer check, and found the actuators were going bad, o2 sensor bad, and secondary air pump bad. Repaired all, error kept returning. Pulled a few plugs and noticed 2 looked pretty bad (6&7)... decided to look in cylinder and bad scars. I have had the car 2 months, either rebuild, replace engine or sell. What in the world to do ...

How bad is the scoring? Have you performed compression and leakdown tests?

Rebuild and replace are probably not options as those will cost half of what your E93 is worth. Selling and not disclosing would be bad mojo (not suggesting that was your intention). Perhaps go back to seller and see if they are willing to help.

Scoring is most likely caused by a failed injector. Fuel washed the cylinder causing a lack of lubrication. Previous owner probably got scared of the repair bill and dumped it.
You're better off replacing the engine as thats the cheapest route.

When i was changing my plugs, two of them looked really bad... And they were also 6&7 cylinders. The whole plug was pure black and even the coil was dark brown. Would you think that i have similar thing happening here as well?

Scored walls happen. How many miles on the car? Cheapest route would be to find a used engine on the lower end of the cost spectrum and have it installed.

You'd have more issues if you had scoring in the cylinders. Those two cylinders are burning oil.

Fubar_ M3 it is buring oil, however no smoke out the tail pipe, or no burning oil smell. I went into limp mode a few days, and took it to the dealer they had to replace plugs 6 and 7... drove great. He mentioned I can periodically swamp those plugs with others to clean them up...
where is this excessive oil going... |

BMW states any consumption up to 2qts per 1000 miles is acceptable and chalks it up to engine use variables. You don't say how much yours is consuming. You already said you observed scoring in the cylinders. That's what's would cause excessive oil consumption. Piston rings control oil on the cylinder walls. If the walls are scored the rings cannot wipe the oil off as well so you're going use more oil.
You won't smell or see that consumption. The combustion process burns most of it and the catalysts in the exhaust help burn off the rest. |
