How does DCT handle a spin?

Something to always keep in mind at the track (and on the street for that matter) is if you spin, clutch in. Does anybody know how DCT will handle a spin. Obviously, it's best to avoid a spin, but it happens. Is it smart enough to disengage the clutch or are you going to end up with the potential to damage the engine and/or the transmission if you spin and roll backwards? Anybody know? I guess full on braking would do it; you would just have to know not to release the brake while rolling backwards.

If it's anything like SMG II (and I'm sure it is) then it will disengage the clutch if it needs to.

Seriously. Do you not think BMW will have thought of this?

Excellent question, I was wondering the same thing. I do know there are accelerometers built into the transmission logic, hopefully they disengages the clutch in a spin situation. However I'd like to hear it from BMW or a knowledgeable source.

Seriously. Yes, I would assume BMW would have thought of that. I just hadn't seen it discussed yet, was curious, so I thought I would throw it out there. Sorry if I took time out of your busy day.

I will test it out, but only on ice or snow. I don't feel like learning the hard way that the clutch doesn't disengage.

The concern is that during a spin on pavement when the car is going backward in the spin that the clutch doesn't disengage and thus the wheels turn the drivetrain, transmission and engine backward which isn't all that good for anything.

It will be but we need to quiet the crowd that is convinced that DCT will blow up the car, eat your children, and hang a sign on you back that says "kick me".

I don't know about mdct, but I'm pretty sure that on manual transmission cars, engine will stall before wheels start going backwards, unless of course you dig both feet before the spin takes you backwards.

Nice, that is seriously funny. Sounded much more like a typical T Bone post rather than one from you.
