help me, i am trying to sell my 06 e46 but cant!? (going to buy e92)

i cant seem to sell my car. i have had it on ebay once, autotrader, and craigslist. i have even left it at a luxury used car lot in NJ once but I havent had any bidders.

in the fall of last year i had an offer for 44k, but the deal fell through and since then i have not had an offer higher than 35k {and it wasnt even that firm}

2006 jet black. 17k miles. 19' rims. no accident. properly maintained. garage kept. SMG. sun roof. perfect in my eyes - (people still say the car looks new)

what should i expect for this car? and what are the best avenues to selling this car. I live in manhattan but the car is garage kep in NJ. any advice?! thanks!!!

To avoid what you are going thru I sold my 2004 E46 M3 just before the official photos of the E92 were shown, and still I got slightly below what the car was worth... this is the normal resale market of any redesigned model. Not only you are taking the hit of the past model year, you are taking the hit of the past model body style.

My advice to you is to post your car in all BMW forums classified sections and price your car to sell (market price); that's what I did and it worked for me. I would say, $35,000 for your car with those specs is a good starting point... good luck!

I feel your pain. I sold my '01 E46 M3 (18,000 miles) in October, and got lucky. It was before the used car market tanked, and I had two people interested right away. I sent an email to my local BMW CCA chapter, and I also used word of mouth. Turns out I sold it to my neighbor. Was a great deal for both seller and buyer. Good luck!

Have you tried carmax?

I had my car appraised there, not an M3 but an Audi A4, and got about $3,000 more than KBB value. Sure, M3 is a different story but I'm sure it will give you a good idea of how much the market value is.

You can trade it in and in doing so, you can lower the sales tax of your new car. Of course, you can get a higher price in private sale. Do the computation and compare on how much is the difference between private sale against trade-in (plus tax savings).

The used car market is in really poor shape. Couple that with the fact you have the last MY of the E46 platform, you will simply need to lower the price and take a hit if you really want to get rid of it now.

In my state, (Missouri) you can sell it privately and still get the full tax credit for the price of the car sold. You can even buy the new car (E90), pay the taxes in full and then sell the old car (E46) within' 6 months and recieve the full tax credit amount back.

Anyhow, you just have to stick it up on Autotrader and other sites and be patient. But you have to look at what other M3's are going for in your MY and condition/miles/options and set your price accordingly.

If/when you run out of patients, you can trade it in or let it go for peanuts. You simply have to decide what it's worth for you to have a brand new M3.

Try as hard as you can to be as patient as possible. It will be worth the wait in the end.

I got rid of my 05 e46 M3 Cabrio loaded SMG Nav LED etc.. traded in at dealer for $33,500 but miles were on the higher end at 42k. This happened in March 08. I tried private party all the way down to $36,500 got NO bites. FYI Carmax hit me right in the nuts at $29k. Used car market is bad. Sorry OP

yea, that sucks. i sold my e46 m3 back in january, knowing the e92 m3's were on route to dealers. I had to rent a car for 2 months prior to getting the new m3, but it was worth it to get rid of the car for a good price.

bad time now, not only for new, but old "thirsty cars"
