Lap times DCT vs Manual
Hi guys,
Don't know about you but things are very quite on the DCT with regards to actual figures from magazines. Lots have tested it but as of yet very little info is appearing. Like what's it's time on the ring? And why only one magazine has only figured to car for acceleration? The car has been on sale in the US for over a month and not US magazine has any times on the car.............why? Questions, questions. |

The only DCT tested in a magazine that I've seen was a convertible. Which is not the car you'd want to test for benchmarks of performance.
I suspect that for whatever reason, BMW has not made the DCT available for press testing.

Only DCT vs 6MT I've seen so far is autobild. 3 tenths in DCT's favour on the Conti test track
BMW M3 manual vs M-DKG -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Manual 0-100kph: 4.8s 0-200kph: 16.3s 80-120(6th): 7.6s fuel cons.: 13.8l lap time: 1:35.41 M-DKG 0-100kph: 4.6s 0-200kph 15.2s 80-120(6th): 6.3s fuel cons.: 13.0l lap time: 1:35.11 they conclude that the 6mt feels archaic in comparo with dct and that the difference in laptime is actually quite big. They also say that the DCT is more fun to drive |

The one figure which is of interest to me is the ring time. I know swamp (myself included) feels that on the ring it's time should eclipse that of the manual by as much as 5secs but still no test by SportAuto which is a real shame.
Also why no US test results, they have had the car on sell for over a month yet no proper tests, is it like skierman64 said, BMW are deliberately stopping magazines from testing the cars apart from the usual FIRST DRIVE impressions that are all we are seeing of late. Very strange. |

5 seconds? no way. I think it will likely be more driver dependant. SMG was no faster around laps.

I disagree with your sentiment that ALL M-DCT (or MT discussion should be in the Ultimate guide threads). Or maybe you were just poking fun at the creator of those threads? |
