Model year changeover when?

During which month of the year does the current model year end, and when does the following model year begin?

Currently, all M3/M4 are MY2018. I'm assuming that ends towards the last month of the year in December, and MY2019 starts production in January?

Thanks

I think it's more like July or August. For example, my 2018 F80 has a production date of August of 2017.

I think it is important to point out that the "model year" concept is mostly used in North America. It is somthing not really used in Europe where a car is designated by year/month of production, period.

That being said, the cut over from one model year to the other varies from one year to another and is usually made to coincide with some sort of revision to the specifications, but revision can also be made within model years. For example, the 2019MY M4 starts production in July, whereas the MY2018 M3 goes on until October.

For vehicles produced in Munich and Regensburg which the M4 Coupe and M4 Convertible / M3 are respectively, major updates are typically scheduled March, July, or November (in other words, there is an opportunity every four months). Usually, the start of a new model year for North America is associated with the July date, but as CanAutM3 mentioned, it is not always the case.

As pointed out, it depends on the country - here in North America, for BMW at least, we see anywhere from March through October - depends on the model and or various things going on at BMW. For instance, for my 2006 MY 550, it started in August or Sept, but the 2007s started in March of the following year.

And don't worry about the M3, because there is no 2019. It is done until the next version comes out based on the new 3-series (2020 I think? Possibly making it a 2021??).

And it will be done before October Rumor has it the last of the M3 production is in June due to new emissions testing and the work required to make the M3 compliant for such a short period of time.
