ESS manifold keeps on lifting!!!

I have a 625 kit that keeps on lifting off the intake boots. To rule that out I ordered a new set of 8 and they should be here next week. In the mean time is there anything else that someone can suggest to keep the manifold from lifting?

Granted there are many 625 kits with no issue , even with my old 550 kit it was fine.

I think the new intake boots should be a good start.

Thanks in advance.

Like it builds too much pressure and blows its self off?

Yes you are correct.

I installed the kit in the middle of winter where it is a nice and toasty 30 degrees in the garage. During this process I read that a touch of oil would help get the manifold to fully seat.

I think the oil messed up the intake boot and allowed it to blow off at ~ 7psi according to my p3 gauge.

I tried to clean the existing boots to remove any oil and I am still getting the manifold to lift.

I'm going to give it one more deep cleaning on the boots but considering that they are just $4 a piece new why not.

How are you seating the manifold on top? It's high up and at a awkward angle to apply downward force.

I carefully climbed up on the car and sat on the manifold to seat it. Seriously.

Then use a LED flashlight and inspect how each boot is seated.

I had a similar issue recently. I replaced all boots and all clamps with OEM parts. Fixed the issue.

I recently bumped an old thread since it helped me and I added my 2 cents. It has some decent pictures and info as well. Worth a read.

I also had to replace my throttle body boots but did not have any lifting issues, mine were just deformed. It should not take much force to seat the manifold at all. One good push and it should snap into place. Absolutely no need for oil in the boots or to sit on the manifold, lol. Just make sure the clamps are COMPLETELY loose before you try to install it.

If you continue to have issues, ESS has manifold tie downs which they use for 650 kits. Maybe they will sell them separately for your 625.

I never knew about the manifold tie downs. Thanks for that!

I just installed these manifold tie downs on my car as I upgraded to the 650 kit. PITA to install and I actually had to modify the tie downs by grinding the bracket down slightly as they were a bit too tall to allow my manifold to be seated 100%.

If I had the 625 kit, I would rather get new intake boots and see if that worked first as it will always be a pain to remove the intake manifold with the new tie down brackets in place.

I agree 100%. As I said earlier, there should be no need for these on a 625 kit. I'm not even sure they are really necessary on a 650 kit as we have some folks running the 650 boost level without them and nobody has reported issues.

Just out of curiosity, can you post some pics of your brackets?

I agree. even 15 psi wouldn't lift the manifold. there is an install error if the manifold is lifting. it's likely the black rubber couplers are deformed and not connecting the velocity stock properly.

Yea exactly what I was thinking and why I linked the intake boot thread.

I agree that the bracket may not be needed when the new boots arrive and I install them.

Couplers dry out/get distorted from numerous heat cycles/uninstalling/installing. New set of OEM boots and clamps will do the trick.
