UK M service plan cost

So I've just received an email from my dealer offering me a super special snowflake discounted price for their M service plan. Though I didn't even ask for a quote, I'm awarded this mythical special discount upfront...

Sure.

The price was £999 which obviously isn't discounted at all. And it's only 3 years or 36,000 miles... this doesn't sound like a good deal at all.

Just purely curious to know what price other people have been offered for this plan and where from?

I'm also baffled and frustrated at the difficulty in finding official information regarding the proper service schedule intervals, I can't find it anywhere in my documentation... I know it advises on the iDrive when the time comes but that isn't helpful right now when trying to plan future servicing costs vs the value of this plan. I don't know how many services I'll actually need over 3 years or 36,000 miles.

Cheers in advance

I collect my new car on Saturday, I was also quoted £999 for 3year service plan.

Service intervals are every 2 years or approx every 16-17k miles (oil condition based), whichever comes sooner.

I would assume the RIS (Running In Service) is included in the service plan so worth checking as that's around £300+ at 1200 miles.

If you can get 2 services and your RIS out of the plan its worth doing. If your only going to get the 1200 mile RIS and another service 2 years after its probably not worth it.

I think you also get oil topups free (or at least you used to on the 5 year plan) and brake fluid change so another question to ask

Garage List
2016 BMW M3  [10.00]
As above really, for reference on mine it would have cost:

RIS @ 1200 - £250
1st Service (18k or 2yrs) - £278
2nd service (36k or 2yrs) - £992

So in reality if you are going to do more than 36k over the 3yrs then it is worth it, if you aren't then it isn't.

I was actually going to use an indy BMW specialist for the servicing anyway, 2 former M mechanics from Lloyd BMW started up on their own near me, quoted £160 for the RIS.

I know the pack isn't worth it, we're talking about a minimal saving spread out over 3 years but a £1000 lump sum payment now. Just curious to know what other people were quoted for the pack to see how much I could possibly haggle them down to for it to be even worth considering.

Cheers

Would you say id need that 36k service this year?? (big one) if my M3 is 3 years old in May, (19500 on clock)

Car just asking for a brake fluid change, oil service was done last year.

Thanks in advance and sorry if im sounding confused! :

I've just sat down and thought it through, the info above has been very helpful thanks.

Basically the pack is a royal rip off. They throw big scare numbers at you for future servicing costs, exclude some key facts, and then bait you with this £999 insurance policy for servicing.

"M Series.
Running Service – Due at 1200 miles - £300
1st Service – £300
2nd Service - £1000

...it is valid from vehicle registration and lasts 3 years or 36,000 miles which ever you hit first. The pack is available to yourself for the discounted price of £999.00."

So at 2yr intervals, that £1000 service would be due at 4yrs, which is not covered by the pack and is borderline outside of my planned ownership period. No way would I actually pay for that service if I was already thinking about trading the car in.

So the only way that pack would be of any possible value is if I hit 36k miles in less than 3 years, my vehicle was actually registered in August 2017 so I would need to drive 36,000 miles in less than 28 months to get that 2nd service in so I feel like I haven't wasted a £999 lump sum.

Basically, I'm being baited to drive much much more than my contracted mileage allowance just to get that service and validate a pathetic £600 saving in service costs over 3 years. Which is a monumental drop in the ocean compared to the consumable costs of doing that many miles and the depreciation it would cause. If you just didn't, and were conservative with the miles, you'd probably save £600 over several months on fuel alone.

I told them this. I'm not expecting a response.

I thought exactly the same mate. I do roughly 12k miles per year so would be pushing it for the 3rd "big" service. For me, as long as I know the service costs are coming I can budget for them and it's no issue.

Not forgetting of course that if you add the service pack to the PCP deal (if you went that way) that you will be paying interest on it - potentially past the 3 year service window!

Utter rip off IMHO unless you are doing upwards of 14k miles per year.......

I wasn't given the option of adding it to the PCP deal, they waited until 8 weeks after I bought the car before pitching the pack. My car was a pre-reg so I didn't even know it was eligible to have a service pack.

Thing is... even if someone is doing 14k miles a year - you're putting down a £999 lump sum on day 1 to maybe but probably never get a £600 saving over 3 years. And let's be honest, in 2 years time, BMW are going to be all over you on the phone asking if you want to trade in for the next M car! What you gonna do, say no because you desperately need to cash in that last service before you inevitably trade in a few months later?

But BMW know this, it's not like this ambiguity is unfortunate and unlucky, it's been designed so that most owners don't get that last service covered by the pack. I'm all for supporting them and enabling them to be profitable, but sneaky deceptive things like this leave a bit of a bad taste.

I went for the pack but I agree with what you're saying, I do between 11 and 12k per year and that's what I'm contracted at for PCP, I may get the third service in, in which case a big win, I may not in which case I've paid a few hundred quid over! If that happens I'll be having a stern word and be getting a serious discount on that third service if they want to keep my business as an extremely loyal BMW customer

If you don't get your RIS done at a main dealer it will not be logged on BMW's system and WILL cause issues if you need any engine warranty work and at time of sale.

The RIS is the most important service to get done through a dealer......

Mine is due in the next month or so!!

For cost of servicing See here:

The indy can log services onto the BMW database, it's a small fee line item on the invoice so if it transpired that they hadn't been doing it they'd be hauled over by now.
