Seat ventilation

I know the 7 series and many of the Lexus have seat ventilation where you are basically able to have air conditioning for your bottom. You can feel air come out of your seats and you are able to choose if you want it cold or hot.

From the pics I'm assuming the M3 does not have this? Just a minor dissapointment since living in Florida can get VERY HOT at times...

Wonder why they didn't put it in as an option for such a high priced car considering that the cold weather package does give u heated seats?

My guess is that it might hinder the performance(weight) but why would it matter when a lot of the other options do the same thing?

Anyone wanna bite?

Vent seats are really something "exclusive" to big saloons.

I do agree that's a nice feature, but I don't think it ruins the deal.

High performance and luxury options rarely coincide. The reason the M3 doesn't have it is weight savings, among many other things. Plus, from my experience the normal AC in my BMW is more than worthy enough to keep all of my body parts cool in the summer. Thus, it would be a useless option, waste of money, and extra weight.

I'd guess weight is the number one issue for not having cooled seats. The seats aready weigh too much.

I have it in the Lexus and don't miss in when I'm in the M3. Not a big deal to me.

be glad it's not available in the M3. The M5's ventilated seats are near useless

Speed Cloth gets you part way there - it breathes a lot better than leather

Maybe I have a thicker ass cause I don't feel any air coming out on both of my parents MBs.

It is sort of a weight loss issue and a BMW philosophy issue with their coupe's. Anything that has a CF roof is considered a light weight car. It also is a seat packaging issue. The Headroom in the coupe's do not allow the extra mechanics for the vents, the seats would be too high. In the Sedans you can get away with another 2" of headroom loss. That being said, its a 3er and how much more stuff do you want to stuff it with?

Hence why the M6 does not have vents, but M5 does.

+1

Seat cooling require fans located in the seat which adds weight and that is the enemy of any performing car, such as the //Ms. In all seriousness, not saying its not a nice option because it is as my dad's 7 has it, but perhaps a 550i with sports package (comes with comfort seats with cooling) would be the best fit for you. That car still HALLS A** and is much more comfortable then the e92 M3. Hell, I think even the M5 now comes with cooling fans, which blows my mind because of the extra weight, but I digress......

The M5 with vented seats is great. They are not huge fans, but in the right clothing you do feel the cooling.
