From what I understand, CF shafts are still being manufactured on the M3 to this day... but if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

freaking unbelievable. I had to rush my order in because it was supposed to switch over last November builds. I could have waited another month, which would have been much better for me/how I originally wanted it.

Me neither Aside from the fact that I dont think anyone has actually received the dreaded steel shaft yet, do people really think BMW would replace a part which materially alters the performance of the car? Me thinks not.

LOL, I was cheapskate, was worried about steel-shaft, try to get Nov build by shopping hard in October, no dealers would entertain my offers so I brush it off and wait.
Boom...., Nov incentives came in rolling (actually locked Dec incentive which is even better), I sweeten the offer a bit and one dealer bit, good if I still have CF shaft, got my car last month, but too lazy to jack it up and peek under there. Maybe it's true, good things come to those who wait |

My car is now in production (should be completed today) and as far as I know, the formula is/was not altered and will remain until F80 production concludes later in the year.

Yes a lot of us do. And they have to change the part if they still want to continue selling their cars. The M3 may stay CF to the end which is only a few more months (October this year for US). But the M4 is staying in production for another couple of years and if they don't change to a steel shaft for more room for the particle filter they need to fit, because of new emission regulations, they won't be selling cars anymore.

I think that is the faulty assumption, that it is in fact some how "less than" previous M3/4s. Do you really think someone will be able to tell the difference between an M3 with the CF drive shaft and one with the steel one?

Let say, God forbids, Comp package is de-tuned back to 425HP due to wheel spin and safety reasoning..... and IMHO 99% drivers here won't notice the different in daily driving but it's wrong to advertise 444Hp for Comp package but not deliver it. We can keep going to suspension next if we argue "can you tell the different while driving..." being changed etc. I remember Infiniti Q45 back 15 years ago get sued by owners for false advertising in HP numbers. |
