Really good track pads are terrible for DD use. Good DD pads are terrible track pads.

Hawk HPS are goodish DD pads that will survive a bit of hard use. Hawk HP+ are noisy as a DD but will last longer at the track. The more tracky the pad, the worse the squeakines will be .

PFC Z rated for daily, PFC08 for track days. No reason to compromise on a dual-duty pad.

Project Mu HC+. Excellent trackday pads which can be daily driven. Slight squeal at light braking though. Not really noticeable unless your windows are down.

are you going to swap them, or leave them in the entire time? brake pads are one of those things where you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Agree with this. Street pads will get eaten up, track pads will eat rotors.... First major upgrade to my M was Stop-Techs bc I felt the factory brakes, regardless of pad, just got soft too quickly and I'm just an hpde guy. Whatever you get, I've heard Ti backing plates can help. Good luck. I like Hawk and EBC btw.

What happens is the temp rating goes up and they lose bite compared to stock at street use temps. But hard biters on the street will overheat on the track and probably dust and squeal on the street. If you are not very advanced then stay close to street pads until you get to the level where you need more pad. If you are advanced then you would not be asking the question.

Have a buddy that runs stop tech streets he says they aren't bad for light track use

But the stoptech streets, now called sports, have worse bite than stock on the street. It’s a feel thing. They will stop your car fine on the street — I have run these pads for 5 years on my E90M3 on the street. They just don’t feel as good as stock on the street.

If you only track twice a year, then just get OEM pads. I'm sure you're not at a level where you'll shred a set of OEM pads in a weekend. If you decide to start tracking more often, then perhaps get good at swapping pads and have 2 sets (track and street).

I can change wheels and pads in less than an hour for all 4 corners since I'm still using stock calipers for now.

If you are hard on OEM pads, you can ruin them very very fast. If it is just fun track time, then they might survive without glazing or simply being ruined. Just be very careful that you do not have major fade at a point in time when you really need the brakes!!

Our team had to go back to OEM pads at an endurance race due to poor planning and they lasted 30 mins (fade was bad, then they were just worn down to steel backing) while the race pads had lasted 22+ hours.

Good luck on your track days!! I would love to track my M3 just once to see how it performs but I am afraid that going back to the Integra race car will be disappointing...

Cheers,

You can now swap calipers for the next generation of M brakes (Turner has a kit) to get a bit more bite and less problem with going too soft too fast, although I had the guys at Performance Technic tell me that anyone tracking a newer M3/4 has their pretty blue calipers turn black from the heat.

Yeah, sounds like you never get to have your cake and eat it too when it comes to brakes.

you would have to be insane to run the f80 brakes for $3,800. those brakes are not a substantial upgrade for that price.
