Cancel order
I ordered tanzanite blue F80 in early October. I was curious to see if I can cancel my order if my Car is already in production. I would have to check to see which papers I actually signed in October. Things came up and I can't make the payments I originally agreed to with the salesman.
Thank you |

You can cancel an order anytime up to the day that you sign the purchase contract.

If you haven't taken delivery, you can cancel, the dealership might keep your deposit, but you can cancel.

Everyone correct. But double check on deposit.

OP, a lot of people opine on this topic, but unless they know the specific consumer protection laws in your particular state, don't listen to any of them. In Massachusetts, you can cancel a car order at any time before you take delivery and have 100% of your deposit refunded. No questions asked. But that means nothing for you in NY.
If you don't know NY's laws, ask another BMW dealer. Tell them that you want to cancel an order with one of their competitors. They'll tell you what you can do in NY.

That makes sense. NY is generally a pretty consumer-friendly state. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that but that's the purpose of a deposit which ensures BMW is building the car to your specs and most likely is at the dealer discretion to refund the deposit.
My dealer didn't even charge my cc although he took it and if I did cancel the order he had the right to keep the deposit, look at it logically instead of checking state laws |

Deposit is refundable as you won't receive the car. Only way I can see it being unfair to a dealer is if you order a stripper, MT, and Alpine White. Otherwise, they're going to sell the car just fine and don't need the extra cash from someone who potentially has lost their job. |

Customer cancellations are part of a dealer's cost of doing business. Whether it's "logical" or even ethical is up to one's own self. I'm an entrepreneur and a business person, and I once cancelled a heavily customize order. I really thought long and hard about it, but at the end of the day, it was the right decision for me. The dealer wasn't happy, but he's still in business and thriving by all accounts . . . But it's completely logical for other people to make other decisions.

OP must have a genuine reason to cancel his order and not getting into that but from dealer standpoint they will be stuck with the car which was ordered to a particular person's taste and eventually they will sell the car but its an overhead for them too in keeping the car at their dealership.

According to . . . ??? Correct again. As I said previously, it's a cost of doing business, like a retailer that has inventory shrinkage.
