Will the M3 ever be a two-door again?

With the introduction of all these series for BMW. Will they ever go back to having a 2door m3?

I was actually throwing around the idea of replacing all my M4 badges with M3 the other day. Not sure if I want to spend that much money for a few laughs though.

Why would they? Just made a major investment to relabel all 2 door 3s as 4s, including M's. Better chance of seeing a 4 door M4 GC.

BMW changed the naming strategy (odd numbers: sedan, even numbers: coupe). Will not be going back.
Same thing happened at Mercedes-Benz.
Currently, Audi is going through new naming strategy as well.

That was their stated reasoning for this naming convention, until they decided to introduce the GC versions of the even number series' which are coupes in name only.

Utterly pointless exercise on BMW's part.

Yup, pointless and just a way to squeeze another car into the lineup. Would it be a total surprise if they made a two door version? It would be too easy for them to promote the long awaited return of a sportier M3. It’ll be the M3, M3 coupe, M4 and M4 GC. ka-ching!

Well, forever is a long time...

I can envision a time in the hopefully not so distant future when BMW wakes up, changes all its high-level management goes back to a strategy of making a focused group of sports sedans and wagons that adhere to BMWs original DNA and purpose. It would be wonderful to see BMW invest its resources in that rather than this silly (IMO) proliferation of cars to fit every conceivable niche. I honestly cannot even guess how many versions of the 3 series are now on sale (and yes, I'm including the "4 series" in this category).

Well, one can always dream.

No way. I still get people who think the M4 has more HP than my M3.

Elementary

The M3 is the four door and the M4 is the 2 door version of the 4 door M3.

The 4GC is the 4 door version of the 2 door M4, which is the 2 door version of the 4 door M3.

Stay tuned for the M3 Coupe which will be the 2 door version of the 4 door M3 which is the 4 door version of the 2 door . . . . . . . . . .

Oh the hell with it!

As some people are getting at, its going to take a change in market conditions. If sales of all these niche models tank, they will drop them and justify it with marketing mumbo jumbo like, "We are going back to or heritage..." or "This is the essence of BMW..." and "The iconic M3 Coupe is back...".

I think they just wanted to fill in the numbers? They now have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 series. They were missing some numbers before

Anyone else not like the model nomenclature for the M4?

Personally for me buying an M series BMW was a bucket list item. I always wanted one since the day I had a yellow 90's model ( circa 94/5ish) pull up next to me when I use wheel a fox body Saleen daily. I was blown away by the uniqueness that the cars lines had.

Fast forward and about 5 years ago when I decided to get things in order so that I could purchase a $80K car. I wanted the coupe and wasn't going to settle for anything other than what I wanted. However, they done hanged the name on us to the "M4". If you ran a DNA test for this car you would clearly see that it's an M3 through and through. I guess I feel like I didn't really empty that bucket I was focused on, weird and odd - I know. Jokingly I am half tempted to rebadge the car as an M3, that would make for some fun conversations too!

Anyone else feel the same about this 4 series nomenclature?

It's definitely odd, especially since you can get the 4 series in a gran coupe which means there are essentially 2 different 3/4 series sadans.
