It's been down since yesterday afternoon. This platform would be a lot better if purchased maps could be stored on a local device (laptop, phone, agent device, etc), as well as an authentication key for your VIN. Would prevent issues like this. BM3 would be so much more flexible.

Agreed essentially this is how it should be imagine you need to flash to stock Urgently you kinda stuck, also many a time have my flashes failed due to server going offline and returning.

pity, that's the only downside to having this on the cloud.
otherwise so many positives.

Right? The cloud is like the drive through. And we all know what Leo Getz said about the drive through.

This is exactly my essential thoughts from day 1. Maybe all of this handled on the agent device?

Could it be down because they are updating/changing things for their OBD unlock release?

This is why tuning that requires a cloud is lame. Who even has great internet access at their track? All the more reason MHD will take over once released.

Sure seems like something PTF could change with their platform. I'm no programming expert, but this would be a big improvement. I got to a non-E85 gas station on the way home from work yesterday on empty. No problem, fill up with 91 and flash the stock map while I'm there.

Given that it's holidays week, it might very well be that he's on vacation and unaware of this. Would explain why the server is down for over a day according to some of you, and would explain why there has been no updates on OBDII unlock.

I'd be dope to have a device kind of like the Cobb access port, doesn't require good internet connection to change maps.

I may be wrong, but I believe one of the reasons for having it all go through the cloud is for map decryption before flashing and for ease of applying new updates/features.

By having it on the cloud, PTF can apply updates/changes to the flashing process/logic, code reading logic, features like exhaust flap and ASD, as well as DCT GTS software updates without needing you guys to update the app or agent. The app and agent can remain the same since it grabs all that stuff from the cloud automatically. Ofcourse sometimes those also need to be updated to fix bugs and to display new features, but everything mainly goes through the cloud.

If they had it like Cobb for instance, that would mean needing to update the device itself very often. And since BM3 is still adding new features and continuing development, it seems easier for everyone to have it go through the cloud (for the short term at least).

I would much rather have everything local and periodically check for and download updates. There is no risk of being stranded that way. Right now the platform is offline too much to be reliable and give me the comfort I need to run E85. At a minimum, a message should be pushed informing when the system will be down for maintenance, and for how long, with enough advance warning that users won't get caught out.

Offline too much? Personally I've rarely (maybe three times?) had the encounter of the server/cloud being down and I've been using the platform for 14 months and have probably 80+ flashes (not mentioned the 10s of other times I log on just for logging). And out of those times it was for a system update that was being performed. And the rare times when it had been down it usually is up within minutes. But as I've said, I believe Dzenan might be out for the holidays and hence why it's been out for a day without us hearing from him (probably an expired certificate or something and not maintenance).

I'm not making excuses for anyone as I personally see everyone's frustration because regardless of the reason it shouldn't be out for this long, but all I'm trying to say is that these stuff do happen sometimes. Believe it or not even major websites do go down for multiple reasons. Just as an example, I personally must have had atleast a dozen occasions over the past year where I tried to access this forum but got a message that it is temporarily unavailable.

Yep, I get it. It may not even be a PTF thing. It's a slow bimmerpost day.

Good news first, everything is back on track.

Bad news, we're short staffed until January 2nd due to holidays and unfortunately not being the size of Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, with tech support running in all timezones 24/7 and even these giants experience down times, both expected and unexpected.

We release a lot of updates for software versions, changes to various screens in the app and do so continuously. If we updated everyone for every change done you guys would get bored of it and send it to spam Those functional updates outages last for a minute or so if at most when being applied. Root cause of this nasty one unfortunately was out of hour hands and came down to our cloud provider's internal network connectivity changes which we were unfortunately given only 24 hour notice about . Being away through airports/flights didn't help it either.

OBD unlock is in the works. Helps make it a lot more fun on non-stop 15 hour flights.

Offline flash process that doesn't require internet has also been in the works for some time and is also something that's coming down the pipe. All bootmod3 functionality is already available without internet access, logging/diagnostics/graphing with the last remaining part being the flash portion. You can already export and back up all the maps you've got in bm3 and back them up if you'd like to do so just like you can for instance emails, photos stored on facebook or documents on dropbox, etc.
