HU-NBT supports saving on HDD compressed lossless codecs such as FLAC or WMA (can't recall for sure) , unfortunately it doesn't support ALAC. All my original music from CDs is saved in ALAC converted to FLAC to play on my HU.

A compressed lossless codec is what it means, it reduces the file storage requirement without affecting the original music source (an analogy is zipped files)

I can't say I really understand any of that . Just to be clear, if I save a CD to the HDD will it be compressed and lose detail (for want of a better word) ?

If you rip a CD in FLAC format and save it to HDD via a USB key, then it will NOT loose detail as FLAC is a lossless format. They key here is that information is not lost, that's what lossless means. Information storage requirement is reduced (compressed) without sacrificing the original content.

In contrast, the popular mp3 codec is a lossy format, where the original content is reproduced with an approximation using magical techniques ;-)

Almaretto , I realized he was asking wether music looses detail when saving to HDD, and your answer was partially correct, it is compressed but you can keep the resolution by using a lossless music codec.

CD directly imported is compressed.

Music imported from usb is not.

Both sound different.

On another note how can you delete the import music should you change your mind on the songs titles? Can't locate the delete button for this feature.
