Harmon Kardon EQ Setting

2018 F80

Worked with my audiophile metalhead step brother to dial in the stereo. Took a while, and the settings are a little wacky, but we tested on a whole bunch of different music and this sounds pretty good. No coding to alter the stereo.

Logic 7 Surround is off.
Fader is two clicks to the front.

why do a lot of people turn the Logic 7 Surround off? I tried turning it off and the sound was less vivid. Am I missing something here?

Well, sound profile is very subjective. What sounds good to you may not to anyone else or vice versa. Without messing with the EQ, it sounds better with the Logic 7 vs. off. That said, when you turn it off and crank up the levels in certain areas (the genesis of the OP), I think it sounds much better and more clear.

My understanding is that the Logic 7 Surround will help map the 2 channel stereo or 5.1 channel surround source to the 16 speakers within the vehicle to more accurately reproduce a separated signal (sometimes 360 degrees depending on source material) from any location within the car. Thus, if listening to stereo source, driver and passengers are able to hear the separated audio.

I also don't understand why people adjust the balance and fader settings from their center positions. It seems to me doing so would essentially turn down the gain on all of the speakers, opposite the selected L/R and F/R setting. The larger speakers with more bass tend to be in the rear, and low frequencies are usually non-directional. Thus, if moving the fader forward you're limiting the system's output capability.

There have been numerous threads about using the equalizer settings--one went so far as to provide settings recommendations after using a realtime audio analyzer with pink noise. The results suggested that the default settings were pretty balanced with only minor adjustments needed to produce a flat response. Harman Kardon did a pretty good job...

Interesting. I would be interested to see the setting for the pink noise based configuration.

Moved two clicks to the front actually cleaned things up a little. Overall reduced the dB of the larger rears, which I thought made things a little more accurate.

So I tried the above settings, the bass is much punchier now. Still in doubt about turning off Logic 7 the audio still sounds richer with it on.

I have tried many settings, including most from various threads on this site, and it all sounds like poo imo. I mainly listen to hard rock/metal.

I listen to mostly prog metal, and really dialed this in against Dream Theater, Opeth, and a few others with technical highs, strong mids, and punchy crisp lows.

It doesn?t sound as good as a good set of headphones with lossless source, but it?s pretty good.

Also working to compare Tidal HiFi service against Apple Music via CarPlay to see if there is a discernible difference.

In Tone > Equalizer, from Left to Right...

Bass = +10 clicks up
100 Hz = +4 clicks up
200 Hz = No change (note that it comes up by way of increasing the bass value)
500 Hz = +3 clicks up
1 kHz = +6 clicks up
2 kHz = +5 clicks up
5 kHz = +4 clicks up
10 kHz = +5 clicks up
Treble = +7 clicks up

I also am not going back and forth on the Logic 7. In some songs I like it on, but it others I like it off. When it's on, using the same equalizer settings, it adds a bit of an echo chamber effect. l like it in some places, but I don't like it in others. When the guitars are busy it tends to muddy the sound. When the song is slower and it's slower paced / there's less gain on the guitar, I like it the Logic 7 on. Too bad you can't associate EQ settings to the memory buttons.

I tried the settings you suggested. They weren't much different from what I was already using. Your settings improved things nicely on everything from Wagner to Muddy Waters to AC/DC. Thanks

1) You can associate the Logic 7 toggle a quick menu button

2) TIDAL HiFi does sound better then Apple Music
